We had one false alarm the first night (broken wire). No big deal. It felt "good" to "get it out of the way."
Then, this morning, Dash and I were snuggling in bed. We both were dozing and the alarm went off! I rolled him onto his back and he opened his eyes. The monitor showed both broken wire AND low heartbeat. My own heart about stopped, but it was clear he was absolutely FINE.
Then, about two hours later, I was picking him up out of the cradle and the alarm went off! After that, every time I shifted him the alarm went off. I finally turned the machine off and readjusted his belt ... since then, no more alarms.
gah.
Re: three false alarms this morning
i'm sorry! i can totally relate. the monitor is great for piece of mind, but huge pain when it's not working properly! the anxiety will decrease, i promise! does your monitor have different beeps for lead alarms and A&B alarms? our's is a constant noise if it's a lead alarm and a beeping noise if it's an A or B. after awhile your heart doesn't stop when the lead alarm goes off at least!
good luck, i hope the belt stays put!
False alarms suck.. it's good you were right there to see them ,though.
Do you lotion up his skin? That can interfere with the readings, too. If you just wet your finger and rub the sensor pad, that can help.

At night, when DD wasn't moving as much etc., I was glad to have the monitor b/c it let us sleep.
But we started to get all false alarms for NO reason (the leads were attached...she hadn't graduated to the belt around the chest yet..., no loose connections, etc.) and DH liked to curse at it.
We almost both peed our pants the day that it came off, haha.
