orange for boy?

We will not be finding out if our lil' bean is a boy or girl, and so my question to you is...are orange walls (light orange) too girly? DH just got supplies today for a chair rail and I was thinking maybe painting the room a light orange on top and a darker brown on bottom, but I'm worried that the light orange color might be too girly. What do you think?

Re: orange for boy?

  • I don't think a light orange will be too girly if you have a boy, as long as it isn't a pinky peach.  The brown will help balance it out as well.  GL!

  • As the PP said I would avoid oranges with peachy pink undertones which can lean towards girly. I actually really like orange for a boy or girl. I have used orange accents many times and my little brother actually had a royal blue and orange (his fav colors) room growing up and it looked great. I think that your dark brown tones will help. You can always add blue tones for if it is a boy (like a great royal blue) and pink tones for a girl (like a bright/hot pink). Sounds like it would be awesome.
  • i don't think it would be too girly if it's a true orange, as pp said. however, orange and brown immediately brings to mind halloween for me.

I am thinking of doing orange walls (true orange) if we have a boy with dark chocolate or espresso furniture...not sure of bedding yet. I've seen pictures where orange is used on the walls with black or dark brown furniture and it looks amazing.
  • all depends on the orange... some light oranges look too peachy/mango to me - i would not use them for a boy.

we are doing navy/orange/sage for our twin boys - but a bright, true orange.

I love orange - and think it works for boys or girls - but again- not ALL oranges work.

  • My boy has an orange room. It's "autumn orange" by Behr... I think. But I love it.  It's my favorite room in my house.

  • We're doing orange even if it's a boy or girl :)
  • You can totally use orange for a boy- love it!  I originally thought I was going to do orange, baby blue, and chocolate in our nursery but you could also do orange, green, and chocolate.  (We ended up doing lime, chocolate, and navy)
