If you borrow something

from someone and it breaks, do you pay to have it fixed?

We do. My dad just came over with a belt in his hand. I asked what it was from.

He said, "Your vacuum cleaner."

Me: Oh

Him: Next time you go to Sears, you might want to pick one up.

Me: I guess that means you're not going to Sears anytime soon? Sure, I'll pick one up for you.

I didn't even know he borrowed the vacuum cleaner! He does this all the time. My electric skillet, DH's drill and our coffee pot when he broke the actual pot!

Should I not expect him to buy the belt? I guess I'm just in a mad mood.

Re: If you borrow something

  • Sounds like you need to stop letting him borrow stuff as he's not that responsible.

  • This is confusing -is it his/your belt? his/your vaccuum cleaner? Is the vaccuum broke or the belt? Am I the only one not understanding this?!!

LOL, Sorry. The belt on my vacuum cleaner broke while he was using it.

  • I always replace something if it gets broken.  I would stop lending him stuff.  Have you actually mentioned to him replacing stuff he breaks before?  BTW, how did he borrow your vacuum without you knowing?  Does he have a key or did your DH let him do it?
  • LOL - I thought you meant he like vaccuumed over a belt you wear or something- I was confused!

He lives in a MIL house right next to ours. All on the same property. I was outside with the kids when he came to get the vacuum cleaner I guess.
