If you use chicken in a can, please help.

Ok, so today is the first time I have ever used chicken from a can.  When you open it up, is it suppose to smell so bad?  The can says it's good for another year but honestly that is some of the worst smelling stuff I have ever encountered.

Is that normal?  Can we still eat it?

  • I've used it a few times for dips (which never turn out and I always remake them with real chicken) and the canned chicken has always smell incrediably gross.

  • I have a hard time using canned chicken because of the smell.  I just bought shaved chicken lunchmeat and hated how that smelled too.

I am one of the only people I know who is disgusted by chicken in general anyway.? There are only a few ways I can eat it and most of them are in recipes with several other ingredients like casseroles or dips.? I use the canned chicken for Buffalo chicken dip and it does stink, but still grosses me out less than "real" fresh chicken for whatever reason.? It tastes yummy in that dip (not that you can really "taste" the chicken over the hot sauce, cheese, etc.).

OMG. ?Scuba. ? I am the exact same way. ?I can only use canned chicken for the chicken dip. ? And, I am really picky about the other ways I will eat chicken.
