Is anyone going to try this program, or know anyone who has? I am wanting to try it, but at $200 I want to get positive results. Does anyone have any thoughts on it?
My thoughts? There is a reason we learn to read when we do. I could give you at least 5 books on linguistics/language development off the top of my head but basically until about age 3 we use one section of our brain to process, store, and learn about language, then, as our brains switches to being able to understand language through symbology aka the alphabet we use another part of our brain. The integration of these sections of our brain and the symbiosis of that to process language is key to creating a balance of both sensory learning and cue-based/symbolic learning. I, personally, have no interest in forcing my child to move through that process any faster than she is interested and want her to learn about the world in both a sensory and symbolic fashion at her own pace.
So, no, I wouldn't waste my money.
But hey, if you don't want a 3 year old who has a memory better than a steel-trap I say go right ahead because they can and will drive you crazy with everything they remember at that age.
I don't know a lot about it, but there is no reason for a child to know how to read anything until kindergarten. It seems ridiculous and scam-like to me.
This program does not teach babies to read, but to recognize
specific words. It's memorization. If your child learned the word hat
from this program, he would recognize it while you read him Cat in the
Hat, but he wouldn't be able to figure out the word cat. The
program also uses DVDs, so you are essentially replacing some other
activity you would have with your child, so they can watch tv. Never
mind the AAP says no tv of any sort for the first two years. Research
is also unclear whether there can be negative effects to starting
formal instruction this early on.
If you want encourage literacy
and vocabulary development in your child, the best way is to read,
sing, share nursery rhymes and talk to your child.

Save your money. You can work on that sort of thing when it's time.
I agree with this. ?
