TTC after 35

delurking for a moment to give update (long)

Hi ladies, hope you are enjoying your week.  I normally lurk here and am only an occasional poster as at work i can view postings but not create one of my own, and at home my husband is usually on the computer

so for those of you who dont remember me; i'm the one who lost her 14 month old nephew back in september unexpectedly. he wasnt sick; my sister just went in to wake him one morning to find him not breathing. t was devastating to us all and scared me; since he had no known health problems and he was to old for SIDS. our family is continuing to try to heal these wounds and live life day by day. All you ladies words of encouragement and prayers for us have been appreciated. thanx

so on to our story. DH is 37 and i'm 36, i have PCOS with IR and metabolic syndrome.  we have been TTC for a full year now. And instead of losing weight with the metformin i've gained.  We've also done 2 clomid cycles and i've been on metformin for over a year. the only monitoring my OB did was CD 21 progesterone. and i tried to convince her that it would be low since when i do "O" its not until day 18/19. but she wouldnt listen. So i ditched her and made and appt with an RE. we had our  first RE appt at the end of february this year.  I had my blood redrawn; (10 vials ouch and took phlebotomist 3 tries to find a vein; ouch)   DH tried giving his "sample" at the lab but all they had was a bathroom; no magazines or videos or nothing and he is very self conscious so he couldnt produce. My RE doesnt have a "room" for this; so we did the sample at home and drove like speed demons to get to the lab in time today. hopefully this works.

We will go back to the RE in about a week once they have his SA results back and then go over a "plan"

i already know we will have to increase my metformin.  He also said he would like to try another round of clomid with the increased metformin to see if that helps. in the meantime dh and i have been trying to eat right, go to the gym 2-3 x's a week in an effort to lose weight. i'm just frustrated with the RE b/c we already knew the metformin and clomid werent working; i was hoping he would take action quicker since about 4 days after our first visit I got AF and wanted to give the increased met and clomid a go. but he wanted all the labs back first.

sorry this got long. good luck to everyone out there. i'm looking for 2 lines in "09 like everyone else. lots of prayers for everyone.

  • Sounds like your RE just wants to look at all of your labs before trying something different to make sure they can get you that BFP quicker. My thoughts are with you and hope you are able to conceive with the help of your RE and that everything sticks

  • I remember you, and the devastating story about your nephew. I hope your family is continuing to heal.

I understand your frustration with wanting to move things along - believe me! But I can understand why your RE wanted all the labs first. And I think it's better to work with a doctor who is very thorough.

I hope you have BFP news to share very soon.

  • I am so sorry to hear about your nephew. I cannot even fathom how diffcult that would be. Prayers go out to you and your family.

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck in you ttc journey. It is so unfair that we all have to go through this and wonder if we will ever be parents.

  • I'm so so sorry about your nephew.

    Good luck with the RE.

  • I'm glad you went to an RE. It's amazing how close-minded some ob/gyn's are. I was also told to go to the progesterone test on CD 21 but I took matters into my own hand and went on CD 28 instead since I normally O on CD 21.

    Good luck!
