Pregnant after 35

NT results are back...yay.

well, our numbers were better this time, than last time...we got a 1 in 3,300 for downs and a 1 in 10,000 for trisomy...last time we had a 1 in 600 for downs...I am surprised since obviously I was younger then.

I though this time I would do an amnio for sure, since I will be 37 when delivering, but now with these results, I am going to skip out on that. ?I know they aren't 100% accurate, but I prefer not to face the risks involved with doing an amnio.

?needless to say, I am very happy and relieved :)?

Re: NT results are back...yay.

  • Thats fantastic!

I did the blood test on Wed and Im due for the NT scan on 18th March. Ive just turned 36 and ive been worried about downs , but I agree the risks involved with amnio are scary. I dont think Ill take the chance with amnio  unless my NT results are really bad.

How long do the results take? I assume my blood work will be back by the time the test is performed. Im dying just to have the US  to see my baby for the first time and know its all ok. Waiting for the results will be excruciating....

  • That is great news!

    ?

Punter, since you already did your blood work, they should be able to tell you right there what your results are. ?I did the u/s and the blood work on the same day, so it took a week for everything to come back. ?The measurement on the baby was low, though, so the Dr told us he could tell that everything would be fine, so I wasn't worried over the week wait.?

  • we did the blood work and measurement on the same day as well...he also told us the measurement looked good, so I didn't worry too much..the results took a week...just so you know, last time, the measurement was borderline, and we ended up with the 1/600 result...I have a perfectly healthy little girl today.

  • That is great, I decided to skip the amnio too once we got our good results back. Congratulations!

  • I am so happy you got good results!  Ours is scheduled for 3/16 and I'm nervous about it.  All the good posts I've seen here are making me feel better about the testing and the wait.

  • Fantastic results!! Better than mine, and I still opted out of the amnio (though I did vacillate a bit). I hope everything continues to go well.

  • That is wonderful news! What a huge relief!  Our results weren't quite as good as yours and we decided to skip the amnio as well.
    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • That's great news! Congratulations!! Those are much better results than I had with DD and I didn't do an amnio (my OB's not a big fan of them anyway).

  • That's great news. I am anxiously to have mine done on March 19th.
  • Congrats!  What a weight off your shoulders.
  • My NT results were great but I am 38- 39 when I deliver. I had some serious medical issues a few years ago and I feel that I need to know that everything is ok - I am having my amnio on 3/10. I think we each have to dowhat we think is best for us to have a healthy pregnancy. I am glad so many of you had great results
  • Great results- congrats!
