Looking for: Emotion Books

Mason's having a hard time expressing himself emotionally.  You can read the emotion on his face, but he doesn't have the words.

I've been playing faces with him in the mirror, but not consistantly.

As a result, we're having hitting issues at daycare.

Any children's books you can recommend?  Board books?  Stories?

Was already looking at the Jaime Lee Curtis' Today I Feel Silly.

Re: Looking for: Emotion Books

  • We really like the Karen Katz lift the flap books. they focus on other outlets for your emotions.

Example "I'm so angry I want to hit my brother." "That's not ok, but I can hit a drum"

    Stuff like that.

  • In "I love you through & through" it shows the boy's happy side, sad side, mad side & silly side. Those worked for the boys when I needed them to try to understand.

  • I love the ones Kelly and Erica suggested.  A few others I use in my classroom are My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss and When Sophie Gets Angry (don't have the author handy).
  • I second When Sophie Gets Angry, Really Really Angry. ?I also liked the "David" books (No, David) (can't remember the name). ?
  • I also like the Karen Katz books.  And we got a puzzle set from the dollar bins at target before christmas that has bears with different faces/different emotions. We talk about how we feel when we feel happy, sad, mad, confused, etc.  Ryan also struggles with emotions - especially when he's angry or doesn't get his way.  He throws things - typically at me - and lands himself in timeout or timein depending on his mood.

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
