Due to ovarian cancer 4 years ago my right ovary and fallopian tube were removed. I am all clear on the cancer front since then but now that we are TTC I am concerned that I am going to face problems. My doctor did not seem too concerned and said that we'd have to "wait and see" if I had TTTC but Id like to be more proactive. I realize that the ovaries dont necessarily switch sides for ovulation monthly or anything so theoretically I could be fine but Id like to hear if anyone else is in this situation and their experiences?
Re: Anyone have only one ovary?
A friend of mine had her ovary and tube removed after an ectopic pregnancy last summer. She just found out she's pregnant again. It's been 6 months of trying for her.
Good luck!
Hmm, I just logged on so I am sorry for not responding earlier. I have one ovary but I have both tubes. My OB is not too concerned either. However, I am beginning clomid to "encourage" ovulation from my right ovary every cycle since it can take forever to get KU if my right ovary chooses not to ovulate every month...I don't have the ability to switch between left and right ovary each month. You understand this.
As you can see in my chart my right ovary was choosing not to ovulate this month. The temp spike is from the progesterone to induce AF and start the clomid next cycle. Hope that helps.
A friend had one of her tubes removed and while she did have some TTTC it was related to PCOS, not the fact that she only has one tube. She started a blog about it, but then got pregnant really quickly once they moved to an RE. (First cycle with RE.)
But here are some entries about TTC:

Neither her OB nor her RE were concerned she only had 1 tube. Your ovaries do "take turns," but they don't always alternate evenly. We cheered for "righty" a lot when she was TTC.
Im worried that this will be my problem and that I wouldn't realize that I wasn't ovulating until a long time had passed. I just went off BCPs and my first cycle ended yesterday with 24 days (cd1 of cycle 2 is today) and I plan to start charting tomorrow in order to determine if I am ovulating. It is important to me to be proactive about this - I want to do anything and everything I can!
I see that you have long cycles, does this have anything to do with the fact that you didnt ovulate?
Also, how long were you trying before you began clomid?
I had one tube removed due to a cyst many years ago, but I haven't had any trouble since. I charted for about 7-8 TTA because I wanted to make sure I was ovulating. It looked to me (and my doctor) that I was ovulating every month. I guess my one good side is doing all the work now?
Once you start charting you might find that you're ovulating regularly too. GL!
