I am trying to find solutions for dd's severe constipation/bowel problems. One suggestion I found on websites was to cut down on dairy and switch to soy milk.
She won't drink it says she doesn't like the taste. Can I mix it with regular milk to slowly transition her and get her used to it? I saw they have plain and vanilla...which one do you use?
How does dc get vitamin D if they drink soy milk? Do you use it for cooking (mac and cheese etc.?)
Thanks!
Re: soy milk questions
ii'm trying to figure out how old your dd is but i would talk toyour ped first but IMO this is what I would do (I did this for my son who had probles as well (he's 3 now and doesn't have any isues anymore.
Cut back on the starch in her diet (white bread) etc. cut out apple sauce and banana (these stop you up), cheese etc. stops you as well.
you have to get fiber into her diet. prunes if she'll eat them. I put Benefiber in my son's milk every morning and in his juice at dinner. it's tasteles and safe. Also, if you get flax seed, that is in it's whole form and get a little hand 'coffee bean' blender, you can mix this in with different foods daily...it's filled with all sorts of things to help with this problem.
switching to soy isn't going to solve the problem. you need to change her diet, it's the only way.
Sam drinks Vanilla soy. He wouldn't touch the plain initially. Now, he will drink his playmate's plain if we are at her house.
The soy milk is vitamin enriched. No need to get the "kids" version, they just add more vanilla, so it has more sugar...Although, my sister saw the sugar content and freaked, but when I checked regular milk, the soy still had less.
Soy is like drinking 2 percent milk, so we add extra fats to Sam's diet with olive oil, egg yolks, and so on. We won't need to do that after he turns two though.
Yes, you can cook with soy milk. But use the plain, unless you are baking/making something where vanilla is a good flavor addition! Vanilla flavored mashed potatoes are SO not good!
Too much milk can be constipating, so you might want to try this, along with other diet changes. And of course tell her Dr.
