Pregnant after a Loss

Infant Travel

How young is ok to travel? And I'm not just talking flying.  I'm talking a whole day of flying from Japan to CT.  Its quite the ordeal for us to get home with DH's leave and such and, of course, the opportune time would be for xmas, but our little one will be only 2 mths...So if we dont go this time, we'll have to wait for everyone to meet the babe for over a year.  Thoughts?

Re: Infant Travel

  • I am a huge fan of bringing children with you on trips and think that they really enjoy it.

That said, two months is really young to be on a plane for that amount of time. With cold and flu season in it's peak during the winter, I'd be very concerned about having such a young baby on a flight at all. When you add in the length of it and the exhaustion that you will still be dealing with, it's a lot to handle.

    Just MHO.

  • I grew up in a family that moved around a lot for my dad's job - we lived in the former Soviet Union and the Middle East.  My mom had several babies while we were serving in countries where the U.S. government forced the women to come back to the U.S. to give birth.  They usually clear the baby to travel back to the post country at about 6 weeks.  So there are lots of young babies flying long distances - my siblings all did it with no adverse effects.  It IS stressful for the parents, though.
  • I'm pretty sure my mom told me my first plane ride was when I was only a few months old.  I made it thorugh!  And at 2 months they won't complain about a whole day plane ride like a one year old would get fussy!!  And infant would probably sleep most of the time!
