Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How do I know if my 7mo old is getting enough milk?

She is on solids and BF's 4 times during the day and 2 times at night.  I would like her to cut out the middle of the night feedings but need to know that she is getting enough but I have no idea how much she is drinking because she only eats for about 5-10 minutes each time during the day and 20-25 minutes at night (because she is sucking to sleep).  What is a schedule for your 7-8 month old like and how do you know it is enough or too much?  Are they sleeping through the night?  Thank you!

Re: How do I know if my 7mo old is getting enough milk?

  • Here's our schedule:

    7:30-8am: BF

    8:30-9: solids

    10:30-11: BF

    1:30-2: BF

    4:30-5: BF

    5:30-6: solids, and then bath.

7:30-8: BF, and then to sleep.

10:30-11pm: dreamfeed, and then dd sleeps through the night until 7:30-8.

I figure that dd would let me know if this wasn't enough. Hope this helps. I'm sure your dd would let you know if she needs more. She also snacks on puffs once or twice a day.

  • We don't have a schedule... she BFs whenever she wants to. And we also don't do solids... we give her a new thing to try once a week or so and occasionally puffs for fun.

She slept in 8-12 hr long stretches until about 2 weeks ago or so and have been wanting to eat a few times per night since but I think it may have to do with my PG and possible changes in milk.

EDIT... I should add she eats every 2-3 hours or so on average. One breast at a time

  • Lily BF every 3-4 hours during the day. ?I wish it was more like 2-3 hours like she used to because she has gone from waking once at night to twice, but I think it is just because she is too busy to nurse properly during the day. ?I try to offer her the breast more, but she won't take it.

I offer her solids twice a day (about an hour- hour and a half after she BF), but she is not a huge fan yet. ?I am not worried because I know that BM is all she really needs the first year.

As long as your LO is gaining weight and has enough wet diapers, than she is fine. ?I don't think their is any one age that LOs should stop night feedings and some just need it longer than others. ?JMO.
