Pregnant after 35

I'm 39

we're about to start trying, I think. we're trying to play this close to the belt and not tell anyone... but I'm a talky talky kind of person...

anyway, any suggestions?

Re: I'm 39

  • I used fertility friend (the website) and a few OPKs to track my cycle. I have a history of endometriosis so I did not want to waste time. It took only 2 cycles. Another friend on the TTC over 35 board took 5 cycles so there is no reason to panic if that happens.

    I was only 37 1/2 when I got pregnant but I will be 39 in about 2 weeks. ?

  • I'm 38 and I'll be 39 next month and I'm pregnant with my first. And I've been talking since I was 9 months old and have never shut up! LOL!

I was very lucky and conceived within 5 cycles. My cycle was quite regular at 28 days, so I just attacked my husband every couple of days during what I thought was my peak time.

The month I conceived, I used ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) for the first time and we had sex the day of the positive result (we also had three days prior and three days after). I'm guessing it was the night of the positive day that did the trick, but sperm live for a few days so you never know.

So the best thing to do is get to know your cycles?chart, pay attention to cervical mucus, if you can find the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility (I couldn't) I've heard it's great?and if you're not pregnant in 6 months see your doctor.

    Good luck!

  • Are you familiar with how exactly your cycles work so you know the best times to TTC?  I am very lucky and have always had very regular cycles, so I just made sure we FWP during O week, and we made a baby.  If you need some help figuring out when you O, I have heard that Taking Charge of your Fertility is an excellent book, and many bumpies temp and chart to track their cycles.

    GL and have fun!

  • I'm also 39....became pregnant at 38 using the CBEFM......highly recommend it!!  Try looking for a used one on craigslist, Amazon or a similar site!!  Good luck, hope to see you here very, very soon!!
  • Good luck!

I'm 41 and we got pregnant with no drugs.. just old fashioned sex (so to speak!)    But we're only at about 4 w, so no U/S until the 17th to see if there's really a critter in there.   Last time, there was not, so I'm staying calm and we're not telling anyone yet, either.

  • Aaaaah old fashioned sex....  LOL!

I'm 39, and we started trying for #2 about 2 mos after my 39th birthday.   I told DH that I'm old, my eggs are old, and this'll certainly take some time - given that i'm OLD.   It was labor day, I was drinking like it was my job and BOOM - first time out we hit the lottery LOL!

The first time out, though, I used the CBEFM - and LOVED it.   I saw that amazon.com has them on sale right now from 199 bucks to 123... great deal, if you're looking!

    Happy conceiving :)

  • 39 right here-first successful pregnancy.  And I know the exact date it happened--the day after our parents left from being at our house for Christmas holiday.  It was sadly our only "nookie" that month (hey, we are old and tired), I have ONE fallopian tube, and evidently, it only takes once.

This was a true surprise, as I have had fertility/pg problems in the past. Big ones.  My docs are floored, so are we.

When I look back, what I thought were period cramps coming on were actually O cramps (I never pay attention to my cycles, as we always use protection--we have a 1.5 yr. old and a 3 year old through adoption).  So tracking when you O is probably a good plan.

If I did not have 5 losses under my belt, I'd probably never say this, but this time was a "have a few drinks after Christmas because our parents have left the house" baby.  And it is my first sticky, non-ectopic.  Usually, I growl a little when I see the "oh, we just hopped in the sack and blammo" reply but honestly, our road has been long and hard. But it can happen pretty fast--so don't be surprised if it does.

Good luck, try some OPK's so you know when you O, temp if it won't drive you crazy, and you'll be back here soon.  Much love, Jill

I told DH that I'm old, my eggs are old, and this'll certainly take some time - given that i'm OLD.

I told my DH the same thing. He has made a big joke about it. His boys can swim "but there's some question about those eggs."

Anyway, I'll be 39 in a few months. This is the first for both of us. I too have very regular cycles. I actually made an appointment with my OB/GYN because I started spotting and I never spot between periods so I was afraid I was perimenopausal (and crazy). Took a pregnancy test before the appointment because I had been dizzy for several days and found out we're pregnant.

I had surgery for endometriosis about 10 years ago and was sure this was going to take forever. We're so delighted that it didn't!
