My Rocking Chairs

Hi Ladies, my name is Frank and I have a business making handcrafted upholstered rocking chairs. One of my recent customers posted pics on The Bump of her nursery with the chair she purchased from me - fabulous pics of her nursery and she was very happy with her chair.

So I have been thinking the last few months - since I make these upholstered chairs and some accessories to go along with them (quilts, cushions etc.) what would your opinion be if I were to start making matching crib bedding sets? Customers could then purchase a custom-build rocker, picking a fabric either that I have in stock, or a fabric of their own choice, and could also order a crib bedding set to match.

Do you think this is a good idea? Would there be a market for this? I see that so many crib bedding sets are priced very high - what would you pay for a custom set to match a rocking chair?

Let me know what you think! Thanks so much for your ideas!

Frank

Re: My Rocking Chairs

  • Your chairs are incredibly beautiful! ?I wouldn't myself be too interested in the bedding, but I can imagine many women would be!?

  • Loading the player...
  • In my honest opinion I wouldn't buy the rocker set and bedding to match...

Only because I would expect to keep the rocker long term and the bedding short term...and it would be too difficult to match another bedding set to what I would already have.

But that's me, other people might feel differently...

  • I think your rockers are very nice, and am seriously considering ordering one myself.  My personal opinion is that if you do want to expand into crib bedding sets, you might want to expand the fabric choices offered.  I think giving the ability to provide your own fabric is great, but most people like to browse different styles and expanding the options offered would be great.

Like a previous poster stated, most people want a more neutral chair fabric.  One option would to offer bedding that compliments (but not matches exactly the chairs) and maybe offer matching pillows to put on the chairs.

  • They are beautiful!  However, where they are a higher quality chair than perhaps something you'd buy at BRU or Walmart, people might want to be able to transition the chair to the living room, etc, after their child grows out of the nursery stage.  If it had (i.e. in my case) rubber ducky fabric on it, it would not really transition well to other areas of the house!  However, as someone else suggested, if you offered a crib bedding set that had the theme displayed strongly in the crib bedding fabric and a more toned down version in the chair fabric, that might be really nice!

For example, my nursery theme is rubber duckies with blue soap bubble accents.  I am making all of the stuff for the nursery myself.  I could see having the sheets, quilt, bumper, etc. with rubber duckies and soap bubbles, but perhaps the skirt and the rocker could be in a matching plain blue fabric that was the same blue as the background of some of the other pieces.  Do you know what I mean?

    Good luck!
