Hi everyone! My name is Adriane and I'm a new poster even though I have been on this board for awhile. I was prescribed Diflucan by my OB for a slight yeast infection (barely there). I went ahead and took it without thinking because I trust my OB. She delivered 2 of my kids and haven't failed me yet. Well, after taking it, I started researching the risks of taking Diflucan during pregnancy. It is a pregnancy category C and not recommended during pregnancy. When I called the pharmacist, he confirmed that this info was true. I was wondering if anyone out there has taken Diflucan while pregnant and if it had any ill effects on the pregnancy. TIA
Re: Taking Diflucan during pregnancy
first of all, you should LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR.
second, thats the only thing that will cure a yeast infection for some women.
Ditto.. I love that little pill. I am prone to getting them and thats the only thing that works for me. I would listen to your Doc he/she wouldnt let you take something that was harmful to the babe.. GL
I don't blame you for wanting a little more information. Doctors are wonderful, don't get me wrong, but I'm a pharmacist and I see doctors making mistakes a lot; they're human too (plus I'm married to one... so I have an inside perspective). There's nothing wrong with questioning them. After all, it's YOUR health and your baby's health. With that being said, you're out of your first trimester, so that's good! Usually docs will say to wait until at least the 2nd trimester to take any meds that aren't medically necessary. From what I read, it seems that fluconazole is relatively safe to take in pregnancy (based on case reports). Hope this helps!!
