URGENT: Recommend your Family Daycare in the UWS / Manhattan

I have a three month old and I went back to work on Monday and the family daycare we had set up is no good. I am terrified to bring her back there so I need urgently a new place. I am working from home today and have her here, thats how bad it is... Please help me with whatever you have. Thanks so much!

  • i would go to the playground today and approach other nanny's to see if they have any reliable friends.. first observe how they are with the children.

Your not taking someone elses nanny, you are just asking if they have friends.

I'm pretty sure a lot of nannys have been getting laid off since many working mothers have lost their jobs.. this maybe your best bet.

    Good luck.

glad you followed your gut feeling and didnt put your child back into that day care.  Your gut feeling usually knows best.

  • Hi There-

My daughter doesn't go here, but if we were closer she would. She was originally enrolled in the facility on LI, but we have since moved to NJ. They have a sister facility on the UES, so not sure if you are willing to cross town. It is worth checking out... the LI facility was AMAZING!

    Good Luck!

Let me correct myself. your NOT asking if they have friends, your asking if they have friends that are nannies.  You dont want just anyone referring you to their aunt or uncle..

but in most cases they know a nanny that use to bring a child in to this play ground that have lost a job recently.

If you do get someone, i would ask for a referral of the last family that she was a nanny for.

     can never be too cautious.

  • thanks thats a great suggestion. and i really had to laugh about the friends comment, but you are right. :)
  • thanks for your suggestion, I will check them out. It seems though as if they have a long waitlist... as everything else in Manhattan. Smarter Toddler has one for 12-15 months... crazy.
  • I'm just starting to look, so I don't have any personal recommendations, but I've read good things about "Small World," a family daycare on 85th and Columbus. The director is Jessica Nooney, and I think the phone number is (212) 787-4750.
