Parenting after a Loss

Is there anything I can do?? RE:Croup

I keep reading about giving lots of fluids and popsicles to help. oookkkk cant give a 6 month old popsicles.

Basically all I can do is a humidifier while sleeping and other techniques to help her out of a cough attack, which she hasnt has any. She cried after almost every cough b/c i am sure her throat is sore from the strong cough. But what on earth can you give an infant to sooth a cough??

  • Knowing me and my questionable parenting...I would probably try the popsicle.  It really can't hurt too much, and maybe it could help.  At least that is what I think about things like this.

I have heard that a really steamy shower (with you or your DH) also helps.

I am sorry you guys are having a rough time.  I hope your night improves.

Thanks! At this point she is just having single coughs, no real coughing attacks. She just cries afterwards, sometimes goes back to sleep. So far she has cried to the point i need to go in there 2x. I had DH turn up the water heater just in case so we can steam up the bathroom quicker.

  • I'm so sorry that you have to go through this.  I hope she starts feeling better soon. I'm glad she hasn't had any major cough attacks!
  • Is it croup?  If it is croup cold air helps as well you could go outside for a bit.  I hope she feels better soon.

  • My dad (the OBGYN) says the best thing for croup is to wrap baby up in a blanket and go outside in the cold air and just hold them....

  • I would be giving her tylenol just to see if that changes her disposition.  We always found, with both kids, that they were like a new child after some pain reliever.  You might even ask your ped if you have the go-ahead for motrin/ibuprofen at this point, if you don't already use it.

Also, I might try giving her a little water in a bottle, again if you haven't already tried it.  And maybe run the humidifier during the day too, not just at night.

  • Aren't there Pedialyte popsicles? Did I dream that up?

I've also heard that about the cold, and alternating that with the steam...try a steamy bathroom too for a little bit. Much more steam than the humidifier.

I hope she feels better soon poor thing!
