This is possibly incredibly presumptuous of me... but I have been thinking it all day...
My Ethan has a weight gain issue that was slowly turning into a weight loss issue (he went from 90th percentile in weight to <20%) and it took a stupidly long time to figure it out, because no one looked at it as an additional symptom. I was thinking about your Ethan and his weight loss, and wanted to mention it to you. I am so sure that it has been ruled out I feel almost stupid asking, but I am going to anyway, because I was so worried during my E's weight issues. Has your doctor checked for a milk soy protein intolerance? When we discovered that E had one, we were able to make some small changes that made a difference, and E has gained 6 oz and 2 inches! (he hadn't grown at all since 4 months!)
Anyway, you and Ethie were on my mind today... I hope you get answers, soon.
Re: Brahim
Funny you should post this, but the dr. called me around 6pm tonight w/ the blood test results from friday. All the allergy tests came back good. So yay! no food allergies...I assume that a milk soy protein intolerance would be part of a milk allergy test? They tested for milk, soy, wheat, Celiac, er, bananas, nuts, and citrus. They were all good.
If Ethie had a milk soy protein intolerance would it come back on an "allergy test?"
no! that is exactly what I thought, but it is not an allergy (it is metabolic) in that there is no histamine reaction, so it does not show up on an allergy test (btw, did he have the skin test or the blood test, My research indicated to me that the skin test is more accurate) There are 2 ways to test for a MSPI, one is to test the stool for blood and mucous, but that test is actually considered inconclusive. The other is to do a lower GI biopsy, which is so invasive. We did the former as well as a strict elimination diet and luckily it was easy to figure out. We made a series of changes to E's diet and thus far it seems to be helping.
this is one site (it is not very medical, but it was helpful) that offers more info..
