Adoption

Possible Match :)

Hey Ladies...

It's been awhile since I've posted..but I thought I would share some exciting news.  We have a possible match!! :)  We found out about her via word of mouth....and she sought us out.  Funny thing-she knows who we are...but even though we know her name-we don't know who she is. Weird!

Anyways....she's due in June and will hopefully be meeting us in the next few weeks.  She has said that she doesn't have any other couples in mind...so we are hopeful...but obviously...VERY GAURDED.

I do have a question.....knowing this is a possibility...should I tell my boss about this since I would be needing maternity leave-or do I wait a few weeks to see what happens.  She knows about our adoption plans, but since she has been SO GREAT about giving me time off for appt's for the adoption process-I want to keep her in the loop-but I don't want to jinx myself either (sorry if that sounds dumb.)  We've known about this girl since Christmas..but I haven't said anything to work-because we didn't know any specifics...but we recently found out she is MORE SERIOUS than we thought she was about us.

TIA!

  • How exciting for you!!  I'll be praying during this time.  I would probably go ahead and let your boss know since she already knows about your adoption plans.  GL!

  • Ditto Amy on the telling the boss. If she has been great up till now I would give her a heads up.

Keep us posted on how things go. It's always great to hear things like that

  • I would tell her...no doubt about that.  Its not like your telling her you are getting a baby for sure its just nice for her to have a heads up!  Im soooooo excited for you! =)  GL!

  • I would tell her its a possibility, not a definite.  Plus if  you need to cross train someone to cover for your job, you have time to complete that task.  Plus, what if she delivers early for some reason.  You would want to be able to leave unexpectedly if possible in that situation and if you have a plan of action in place already, it will be easier.

     Congrats!

  • I would definitely tell her since she has been so nice so far, it would be so much easier if you have to leave in a hurry ( she would already know what's going on). Good luck to you
  • congrats and good luck!

I agree with pp about telling your boss. She seems to be so supportive thus far, i'm sure she will stay that way!

  • I am so excited for you Erin!  I hope this works out for you!

As far as telling your boss, I agree with pp and give her the heads up!

  • Just wanted to add my congrats!  I also agree that you should let your boss know, but if you are concerned about too many other people knowing you could let her know in confidence so at least she is in the loop and you can share with co-workers when you are more comfortable.

I hope it all works out well for you!

  • Congrats!!!!! I too say tell your boss in confidence.  Exciting news!!!!
  • Congrats!  We've been dealing with a possible match, and now two possible matches for a few weeks now.  I'm a teacher, so I've let my boss know of the possibility, as they'll have to hire a sub for the rest of the year.  I think it is just a courtesy to your boss.

     Good luck!

  • Hey Erin! So excited to hear that your potential match may be working out after all! I agree with all the PP's. I'm sure your boss will appreciate as much notice as possible, and will reciprocate the respect and consideration that you are putting forth for the company. So excited! Can't wait to hear how things work out.

  • How exciting. Congrats. I would at least give your boss a heads up. I've already talked w/ HR about taking a LOA when the time comes we have 12 weeks we are alotted to take per year if needed. I took 4 weeks when I was recovering from surgery... I still have 8 weeks left to take. HR said all I have to do is prove is that an adoption did happen; I was matched... & I'm good to go 6 weeks maternity leave; more if I like.... during this time my job has to hold my position. Maybe you have something like this?
