2nd Trimester

expectations?

let me preface this by saying i would never be one of those parents who actually pushed my child into liking theater, sports, etc. just because it was something i was interested in.

that said, i REALLY hope my little girl develops a love for roller derby. i plan on skating until i have to retire, and at this point it's feasible that we could have a few years of bouting ("games" are called bouts, bouting is skating with your team against other teams) together. i just think it'd be really cool if my little girl ended up a little roller girl like her mommy Stick out tongue

i know my husband is hoping our son wants to play football, and we both hope that both of our children express interests in art/music (he has a bachelors of fine arts and works in non-profit art, he's a bass player and i play guitar).

what interests of your own are you hoping your child picks up on?

Re: expectations?

  • I didn't play any sports in school nor did I join any clubs or do extracurricular activies so I just hope that my son or daughter does something!

  • Loading the player...
  • I just want my child to be as freely imaginative as possible. I'm into all sorts of crafty type stuff, so it would be great if we could do crafty things together!

  • That is a good question; I really havent given that much thought. Sports is always a good one. Teaches team work, hard work, dicipline, all that good stuff. I think it's nice to be involved in groups like boyscouts of brownies. I was into "pagents" as a preteen. It really did teach me huge self confidence as a child. I guess that would be ok too. IF THEY WANTED TO. None of that crazy b*tch forcing their kids into makeup and fake lashes at 2 years old. Oh my.
  • I want him to be an avid reader and plan on doing whatever I can to foster that.  I will be happy to support him in sports if that's what he loves, but I hope he's into more creative hobbies.  DH and I wouldn't know what to do with a jock!

  • I would love for him to play an instrument and of course DH wants him to play sports. We won't put them into anything unless they want to though.
  • We're less interested in our kids picking up our interests than we are in them picking up things we never learned, but wish we did. For instance, living in Canada blows if you don't know how to do any winter sports. I was never taught to ski or snowboard or skate, and DH and I plan on taking skiing lessons with our kid so that we can enjoy winter a little more. We wish our parents had done that with us. Also, neither of us is a very good swimmer, and we are planning on enrolling our baby in swimming lessons as early as 4 months. We regret not being stronger in the water and want our kiddo to have that lifeskill.

  • i hope my daughter remains an individual and doesn't try to be apart of the crowd. I hope she's a free spirit like her mom! :) I pray that she loves the arts, as i am a writer... and i really hope she can sing.  Other than that I hope she'll be really wise and mature like her dad.
  • I hope they both love to read.  As far as anything else, I'm happy as long as she does something.  I also hope either of my girls wont be too girly.  I am not a super girly girl.  But if they are, they have a few aunties around that they can bond with.

  • I hope baby picks up my love of music and DH and my shared love of reading.  I'll be doing a lot of singing and reading to baby.  DH will be doing a lot of reading and zero singing.  Nobody wants that... Indifferent
  • DH's second love (I'm his 1st of course! tehe) is guitar. He really wants our son to play guitar, or any musical instrument for that matter. I think it would really make him proud... I hope our boy does too, and our daughter (one day) as well. I would love to have a little band in my house 24/7 when Ryan grows up.....  :)
  • My DH hopes our child loves baseball, probably more so if it's a boy. He also hates soccer so we joke about what he would do if our child wants to play soccer. lol Obviously, we'd never turn down an interest in anything but Dh really hates the sport. :)

I would love for our child to be interested in reading and academics. I hope to expose him/her to all kinds of different cultures, art, and theater so they can be as well rounded as possible.

  • I plan to expose DS to all (or a lot of) sports and music activities. But I *hope* that he likes baseball more than the others (especially football!) Not sure about what instrument, but I'd love for him to enjoy playing one and be good at it. I'd also love to teach him to cook and be happy if he liked doing it.

If I have a girl, I really really really hopes she likes baking and cooking like her mom. :)

I always loved to read and write so I hope they like those, too. DS already loooves reading. When you buy a kid 500 books, it's hard for them not to be curious about them!

I am answering this for "fun" but I obviously want my kids to be able to pick what they want to do and I will support them if they are really passionate about something.

  • I played a lot of sports in high school and college.  I would love for my children to be active in sports but I am not going to push them.  I want them to be happy and pursue interests that make them happy.

  • S/O roller derby - did you see last weeks Kath and Kim?  That's all I could think about reading your post!

I would love it if our child loves horses as much as I do.  He or she doesn't have to be a elite equestrian or anything, but just sharing that love would be fun!  I'll be happy though if our child just loves animals.  I have nightmares that we'll have a baby who is allergic to them!!!
