Curtains

I was curious how many of you are going to do just a window valance and how many of you will have full curtains? I'm not sure if I want to completely block out light when the baby naps, because I don't want her to always have to depend on it being totally dark in order to sleep.

Any thoughts?

Re: Curtains

  • I'm doing curtains but it won't be totally dark anyways, the window in the nursery is huge and has an "arched" part on top that won't be covered by the curtains... are basically two windows. I'm putting curtains just because it is too much of a window right now and tons of light in.

  • I have a curtain but it's not very thick so natural light seeps in during the day.  It's a white curtain and I'm stiching yellow stars on it; either way, light will definitely be entering the room.

  • We have curtains in the room, but if we want to let in some light we can easily pull them to the side. I'd rather have the option to cover the windows (for various reasons) than have them uncovered all the time. I figure he'll be napping all over the house, it is very unlikely he'll grow to depend on a very dark room to be able to sleep.?

  • I have curtains that I can pull shut.  I don't close them for naps.  It does help keep the room warmer during the cold winter months when the curtains are closed at night so I wanted that option.
  • We're doing curtains instead of the valance.  I just like curtains better.  We didn't pick them to block out light.

  • I was concerned about the safety of curtains in the nursery.  So I did a valance and light blocking blinds.
  • Our house just has one small window in the baby's room so I'm probably just going to do some thin curtains so it doesn't totally black it out.  (I agree I don't want the baby to get used to that)  I might do a valance at the top too!
