We have 4 wks to go and are still nowhere with a name. Opinions on the following names would be great!
Seth--this is my favorite, but I'm a little worried because the only Seth I know was a very strange kid. Is Seth a weirdo name?
Thomas--we both like this one, but I really don't like Tom or Tommy. It will inevitably be shortened, right?! Also, DD's full name is Kate, and I feel like it is weird for her to have a "nicknamey" name and to call our son a more full, "formal" name like Thomas. Overthinking?!
Calvin--our original choice, but now we are both sort of over it. We'd call him Cal. Our last name starts with C and is two syllables and the middle name we're using for any name we chose is Chamberlain, so I'm not wild about the CCC initials, either.
WDYT?
Re: Boy names--help me!
I like the name Seth- I don't know any weirdo's with that name.
Thomas/Tom is NMS.
and I know a weird Calvin, so- again NMS.
All the Seths I know are a little... different. For some reason, I think of the word "sloth" when I hear "Seth". A little too lispy for me, too.
Thomas is a goo, sturdy name. Not crazy about either nickname, like you said.
I like Calvin, not "Cal", and do you realy like how "Kate & Cal" sound together?
The Seth's I know are cool. ?The Calvin's I know are weird and creepy. ?I know a few guys named Thomas and a few named Thomas, but called either Tom or Tommy.
My vote would be for Seth :-)?
Go with Seth, the others will have NN's.
I have a Cal. Just Cal. And get lots of, "Ooh, cool name." Of course, I know there are plenty who think it sucks, too. I think Cal C is fine, and really, how often do all three initials come into play? Besides, Calvin Chamberlain C sounds like a high powered attorney, or a successful person of some sort.
Every single Seth I know is...either wimpy or slothy. Never ever met a cool one.
Thomas is a great strong name, and yes, you are overthinking the formal/nickname thing.
I've never been one to care about initials, or how sibling names "sound together" though. Who cares? I know, I know, lots of nesties/people care, but I've never understood why. Would you not marry someone because your couple name didn't sound good together? And sure, they are bound together for life because they are siblings, but I don't know why that means their names have to "go together."
I'm not a fan of Seth, but I don't think it's a weird name.
I really like Thomas and it would have been DD's middle name if she had been a boy.
Calvin/Cal is really cute. I love the name Cal! The only Cal I know is Caleb and goes by Cal.
My favorites in order would be Cal, Thomas, then Seth.
Just because the name has nicknames does not mean you have to call him that or have other people call him that.
I have a cousin named Thomas and everyone calls him Thomas (he is about 12 years old). His sister is Jaqueline and everyone has always called her Jackie. So it is fine for one to have a nickname and the other not to.
I like the name Thomas...second choice would be Seth.
