They do a full screen in your 1st tri to catch these things.? Everyone should practice safe sex... especially pregnant women!
With that being said, this still scares me.? The article said that she had sores on her mouth?? I'm not going to let anyone kiss our baby!
Umm clearly you don't know that there are two types of Herpes. Herpes I or Simplex is not sexually transmitted. That's Herpes II. Herpes I are cold sores. People get them all the time. Others are simply carriers of the virus.
They are not passed through sexual contact, surface to surface contact will pass Herpes I. If you share a lipstick, kiss your spouse, touch an infected lip and then fail to wash your hands - everything you touch can spread the virus to others.
With either Herpes, there is no cure. Just because you get Herpes I doesn't mean you will get Herpes II. Herpes II manifests itself on your genitals.
This is why sex ed. should be mandatory in all US schools..... Shakes head.?
Herpes Simplex I can be transmitted sexually through oral sex, as can Herpes Simplex II. It doesn't care where it lives. Herpes Simplex I tends to be less aggressive though.
OK, that's sad, but what I thought was even worse were the comments some people were leaving, basically saying the mother was sleeping around, etc. And people wonder why the Salem witch trials (& other various events of people being ACCUSED of something) happen. They have no evidence that that was the case, but leave it to other's to belittle someone for trying to inform/warn people, right? And don't we just enjoy those double standards... I'm sure if the father had been the one to infect the kid, everyone would have been like, "Oh that's unfortunate for that family."
Another scary statistic about HSV2 (the genital kind) is that approximately 1 in 4 adults has the virus - 25%! However, about 80% of those people are unaware that they have it. Do the math on that - it's astounding. It's pretty rare for a mother to pass any kind of HSV to her baby, though. If you looked at the number of women who have the genital herpes and don't know it (that number is very high) and the number of babies who are infected w/ it during l&d (that number is super-low) you can see how rare it is.
that is scary! my FI gets cold sores.. he has one as i speak...i was kind of wondering if i should refrain from kissing him until he's abreva'ed for a few ...hmmm

I agree. This just makes the situatione even worse. You know she already blames herself.
Re: Um, this is scary.
Yeah, the stats are REALLY high.
I think it's supposed to be a lot more dangerous if you get it while you're pg (as in this case), but still. Yikes.
Can you imagine? Giving your baby a disease you didn't even know you had? Horrible. That poor woman. And her Dr. I'm sure everyone feels terrible.
who was she having sex with while she was pg?!?
