What age for top bunk?

Just wondering at what age you would let your DC climb up and sleep in a top bunk?  TIA

Cammy is 6 1/2 and he's been there aboouuuuttt a year, maybe a little longer.

Carter has bunkbeds and we've decided that when he's 6 years old he can start sleeping on the top bunk.

I think I've read 5-6 years somewhere.  I'd want it to be a bed that had a railing on the top, not like the bunk beds we had as kids.

Oh, it would definitely have a railing

We got the bunk beds when he was 5 and slept on top.  He would have been fine at 4, too.
