xp: Sippy cups w/ straws... VERY slow flow?

We've just started giving DD a sippy cup w/ a straw and DH and I have tested the straw ourselves... it seems to require A LOT of suction.  We're using the "Munchkin" brand.  Is this normal? DD seems to be able to do it, but isn't interested in doing it for very long.  We tried replacing it w/ a normal straw, and she got the liquid all over her... any advice?

  • Munchkin is Joseph's favorite. Gerber's okay too.

I don't think there's really an issue with how much suction it takes. I mean, think about it...There's a lot of suction involved in getting milk out of a breast and some bottles.

  • We're having the same problem with ours.  We gave her a regular straw and she did fine with it.  I just wish they made a smaller cup with a straw that is easier to sip out of.

  • I just wanted to say, I totally agree with you on the slow flow straws. We got our son the Nuby sippy cup w/ straw and I tried it out, I could hardly get out the liquid, I thought it was me!  I'm curious to see what others have to say.
  • We found the same problem and DD couldn't create that much suction.  We bought these and then use flexible disposable straws (it comes with rigid straws that don't work for DD).  If the flow is too fast with regular straws, we pinch it as she sucks.
