Moms of Triplets...need help with registering!

My husband and I are starting to think/talk about registering and are completely overwhelmed!  I wondered if anyone had any words of wisdom or advice to share with us.  For instance, what things will we absolutely need three or three sets of?  Are there any things that we can get away with only needing one or two (bouncy seat, swing, etc.)?  What did you do about strollers?  We imagine that it would be easier to manuever a single + double stroller and wouldn't need the triplet stroller....but then wondered if there were times where the triplet one was handy.  Any thing you can pass on would be great!  Any "woulda-shoulda-coulda", can't live without or even specific products/manufacturers to look into.  Thanks so much in advance!

Also, at what point in your pregnancy did you register?  When was/were your shower(s)?  Our 32wk due date is July 7th and our doctor told us to anticipate bedrest at 28wks which is June 9th.

Re: Moms of Triplets...need help with registering!

  • Um...It was kind of hard for us to register also.   We also thought that a single and a double would work just as well, and it is about half true.  We use the single and the double about half the time, BUT I have a lot of times where a triple stroller would be something I need, like say trips by myself or places where there isn't much room and two strollers would take up more than just one long one.  SO if possible you could get a single, double and a triple.  Or just a triple.   I had to get a triple at a garage sale after they were 5 months or so and it is used, hard to steer and not as great as a newer one would be.

I got 3 bouncy's and used them a lot.  My kiddos didn't like the swing, we only got one and ended up not even using it.

I probably registered around 5 months (I can't really remember).  I had my shower when I was around 6 and a half months, which was perfect b/c I had to go on hospital bedrest at 27 weeks.

Good luck with everything and if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.  The other triplet MoM's on here are great!

  • Things that you need three of, Eventully three cribs, they can share for the first few months. I didn't get three swings, We did one swing and 2 bounce/vibrating chair. I recomned Dr. Browns bottle get 8oz bottles. If you get small ones you will just have to go out and buy the larger ones later, boppies x3 you can use them for propping them up to eat and later to help them sit up, at least two pack and plays. We have traveled a few times and was a big help. They small stuff x3. They will give you a list at most places. Something I wish we would have know about was the Bumbo chairs. They love them. We had a triple stroller and I know that you think you will never take them out alone, but that may change. I took them out alot by myself. We now have a double and a single too.

I registered early because my Dr. told me that at 20weeks I would be on modified bedrest. So around 18 weeks we had ours. I hope that helps you out.

  • Congrats on your triplets! ??

We registered around 15-16 weeks. ?I had my shower at 20 weeks. (I had to travel 12+ hours and that was the latest that I could travel that far.)?

    For the registry:

6 swaddles (We liked the SwaddleMe brand best. ?These helped us so much in the beginning!)

3 crib positioners (Only if you are going to co-bed the babies in the beginning -- we did and they kept the babies from rolling into each other)?

3 swings (You will hear different things on this one, but I cannot get by without all three of mine. ?They are one of my most used items. ?If I was going to register again, I would get the Ocean Wonders Swing, the Papasan Swing and then a travel swing. ?I have the Rain Forest swing and I hate it. ?The seat is cheaply made and not nearly as comfortable as the other two.)

1-2 bouncy chairs (my kids don't really like these that much, but other babies seem to love them.)?

1-2 BebePods or Bumbos (We have three, but very rarely use all three at the same time.)?

2 playmats (TinyLove is my favorite!)

    3 mobiles and crib soothers?

3 pack-n-plays (we bought the $59 ones. ?when you are buying three, you really don't need the frills of the more expensive ones.)?

    3 boppys ?

3 upright activities (i.e. jumperoo, exersaucer, play go round, etc...)?

1 baby bjorn with extra back support

    1 moby wrap?

A formula mixing pitcher (Dr. Browns makes a nice one)?

At least 24 bottles (We use the Playtex Drop-ins. ?I love them, but I would not buy them again for triplets because the drop-ins get very expensive. ?Especially in the beginning when you go through a $4.99 box of them every two days! Whichever brand you decide on, I would only get the 8 oz bottles.)

As far as strollers go, we have a single and double travel system and a triple jogger. ?This has worked great for us so far. ?(If I go out alone, I take the double stroller and put one baby in the bjorn.) ?

    Good luck with registering!?

    ?

  • We mainly use a single and a double.  We have a triple Baby Jogger but it is too difficult to open and close and doesn't fit thru doorways and aisles so we use that for walks (and we take a lot of those.)  If you are going to get a triple, I would suggest looking for a used one.  I've heard of lots of triplet moms finding deals on decent used triple strollers.

Definitely 3 bouncy seats.  We actually had 5 or 6 - people kept giving us their used ones as their babies outgrew them.  We had some interactive ones that they could use when they were a little older - there were things for them to pull that would make noise, etc.

I wouldn't get 3 of each but definitely an activity mat, jumparoo, etc.  We would move the girls around to keep them entertained.

  • Car seats, boppies, cribs (eventually) and feeding seats (not high chairs) are the only things we had 3 of at first. Later we did get 3 bumbos and used them a lot.

We had one swing, one bouncy seat and one floor gym. We rotated the babies from one to the other and they never got bored. We used the boppies for bfing and for propping them up if we bottle fed.  We also used them later to help them sit up and listen to stories, do tummy time etc.

Feeding seats strap to your chairs and save a ton of space - they are also boosters for later.  Our babies stayed in one crib till about 6 months - they we split them up.

As for strollers - get the triple. If you don't how will you ever go anywhere alone? Seriously - get the triple - you will not be sorry. I started taking the girls out right after RSV season which was at about 4 months and never looked back. It's really quite easy once you get used to it if you're organized. It gets you out of the house and it really sucks to have to rely on someone else to go somewhere! We have the runabout. You can get them used on craigslist or new on the tripletconnection.com.  You can get the new ones where you can strap in the baby car seats then convert them to toddler seats later. There is a similar stroller called the triple decker - but it has some stability issues - I've seen more than one set of triplets dumped over in it so I refused to get one. There are others on the market - but generally they won't get you through the toddler years.  The runabout gets you all the way to 3-4 years old. My girls still fit in ours and they are 4.  Many will only get you through the first year and you end up having to buy another one later... which can add up.

I'd register sooner rather than later. I had my shower at 26 weeks and I was miserable - I had to sit in a big chair the whole time and all I wanted to do was go home and lay down!

  • i had my showers at 24 and 25 weeks, which was perfect. i'd think sometime in may would be good for you. we had three swings and 3 papasan chairs (wish we had bouncy seats instead) which were vital. we have three boppies which we hardly ever used.

strollers, ahh, i could write a book! i have singles, doubles, and triples. you can probably just start out with single and double snap n gos because you probably won't be going anywhere alone while they're newborns. then, reassess your needs/wants as far as a triple stroller goes, and get that later. i wish i'd done that. instead, we wasted money on a triple decker, when waiting on the triplette (peg perego) would have been better. we definitely used that one a lot - not so much anymore, but i won't get rid of it or anything.

    hope that's somewhat helpful. :)

  • Congrats on your babies.

i found that registering was extremly overwelming.

I did have 3 bouncy seats and 3 swings, my children never all bouced or swang at the same time. i would start out wiht one of each and figure out what they like. i did find that the take a long swings worked well for space.

i do have 3 bumbo seats and they worked well to feed the babies when we went to grandparents house, but my kids really don't like sitting in them and we don't use them any more.

3 cribs.  for bedding i  bought the bumper and just the sheet, i did not get the full bedding set

    3 car seats

3 high chairs, i love the fisher price space saving seats, they work great and travel well

3 or at least 2 pack and plays we had one upstairs and one down stairs and also great to use if you need to separte them when they get older for naps

3 or 2 boppies i only had two

3 exersauser or jumperoo, it is nice to be able to contain them when get older

i used the dr. brown bottles and had lables with each of the babies names to know who bottles was whos. i only had 12 bottle total

a good blender i have a vita mix for making formula

a member to sam's club or costco for formula we used the sam's brand

the moby wrap was great, when they are really small you can fit two in the wrap. i also love the ergo carrier nice to use if you are buy yourself and go out on a short trip and can push two in a double stroller  and carrier the other one.

strollers  i would get a triple stroller. i have triple decker when they were small and could put all of their carriers in the stroller , and now i have the peg prego triplet stroller.  i have a double stroller i bought from craigslist and a single stroller.

what area of the country do you live???

good luck i hope this helps

  • I registered at 16 weeks while I could still walk around BRU without wanting to die and my first shower was at 19 weeks.

The few things I have three of are boppies (I have them all over the house and use them all the time), car seats, convertible car seats, pack n plays, highchairs (we got the space saver ones that mount on a kitchen chair).

My boys are not big on bouncy chairs and like swings much better. It's really going to depend on your babies preference. I started with one of each and now I have two full size swings, two travel swings and two bouncy seats. Another MUST for me has been the Rainforest play mat. OMG.. use it all the time and they LOVE it. I've got another play mat too but they like this the best. I only have one bumbo. I figure if they like it, we'll get another. They aren't in them yet, but I have one excersaucer, one Rainforest Jump a Roo and one of the jumpers that hang in a door way. Again.. we'll see what they like and I'll get more if they have a preference. I think variety is key.

As for strollers, I think a triple is a must. Like a pp said, how would you go anywhere alone? I have a brand new Peg Perego Triplette. I also have the Peg car seats that mount on it so this will be our stroller from birth to like 4 years old. Because of this, we were willing to fork out the cash for the set. It's a serious investment. It's amazing. Has a steering wheel. Really awesome. That said, I also have a single and double Snap n Go, a single Maclaren lightweight and a double BOB jogger. I am pea-kay junior with my strollers!

As for bottles, we also use the drop ins. Love them! So low maintence! I am going to advise that you get the 4 ounce ones also. My guys still use those for most bottles and they are much easier to prop up if you are feeding two at once than the big bottles. So for that reason alone, get some 4 ounce ones.

Ok.. that's a novel. Good luck!
