Question if you travel for work

Have you asked your Dr when you should stop traveling?  I am just curious about what other Dr's say.

I travel mostly by car, alone, and usually 4-7 hours one way.  I asked my Dr and he said that he does not want me flying after 28 wks.  He would prefer for me not to drive after 30 wks, which I thought was kind of early but I won't complain since I would be alone and uncomfortable. :-)  When I was pg with DS I had complete placenta previa and he said absolutely no travel.  I now have partial placenta previa but there is no restriction other than being on pelvic rest.

Re: Question if you travel for work

  • My dr. hasn't restricted my travel, but my family did.  They are not letting me drive over an hour by myself.

I would listen to your dr.

  • My Dr. only said no flying after 32 weeks, but I cancelled all of my business trips this year because I can't hang out with my coworkers 24-7 without a drink or 3. I also lucked out because I have a relative who lives halfway to my parents houses so I never have to drive more than 3 hours at a time to see them- but I'm not going to drive that far after April because I have a tiny car and I just don't think I'll be that comfortable- especially if I'm alone.

Same here.... I asked my Dr. and she didn't mind right now or act like it was much of a concern.  I plan on asking her again when I get closer to full term so she knows my worries!

My only issue is what if I go into labor that far from my hospital.  So I am having some family ride with me (if I can get it approved from my company) on trips if they are over an hour from home.  I figure I can wait an 45 minutes to an hour for some on to come pick me up if I go into labor or I could drive that far if the contractions weren't too strong or close together!  I'm really nervous about this!  I ask everyone!

  • I haven't asked my midwife what she thinks yet about my traveling. I drive 3-5 hours two or three days a week. I think that I'll certainly slow down around 30 weeks and stop traveling completley around 34 weeks, but we'll see.
