If you've sold things on Craigslist...

We have some pieces of furniture that we will most likely be putting on craiglist.

I just feel strange about letting strangers into my home when it's just me and the little guy.  H works 6 days a week (recently he's been working 7 days but that's a different story) and gets home at about 6:30 p.m.

Because of the size of some of the items I can't meet them somewhere.

Am I just being paranoid?

Re: If you've sold things on Craigslist...

  • No you aren't.  And I never get nervous about stuff. Do you have a neighbor that can come over?
  • That's not being paranoid, that's being smart. Could you have a specific time that you allow people to come see the furniture and either have your DH home with you or a friend or family member?

  • For larger items, I prefer to have DH home.

Once you have a time set up with someone, is there anywhere that DH could move the stuff to (garage, porch, etc) so that the people don't have to actually come into the house?

Any neighbors or friends you could have come over?    I don't think you are being paranoid.

  • I wouldn't meet someone at my house alone.  But, there's no reason they can't come after 7 on a weeknight.
  • So, would I put in my ad about the times they could come?  I've never seen that on any ads before.
  • No, I don't think you're paranoid.  Most people prefer to come out in the evenings anyway since a lot of them work too.  Just tell them you're only available after 7pm if you want or Sundays or whatever day your DH isn't working.  DH has always been home when people came to look at things plus he was there to help them get the furniture in their truck or whatever if they needed help.
  • I sell stuff a lot on craigslist. I always make sure someone is home with me if it's a big item. Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put the furniture in a garage if you have one.

I wanted to give you a heads up. The scammers like to look for big items. If you get an email stating that they will be paying with a check and a driver will pick up the furniture and the remainder from the check, it's a scam. I am selling an armoire and have had so many of these offers.

    Be careful!

We don't have a garage.  I effing hate this house!

But, thank you for the heads up.

  • No need to put it in the ad.  Just when they email you to find out when they can come see the furniture, tell them after 7 or whatever.  Just set up a time that works for you.
