Nicknames for Elizabeth

What are some cute nicknames for Elizabeth?

We are thinking about Elizabeth Grace if we have another girl. (yes I know it's uber popular, but I like old traditional names and they seem to be the most popular right now!)

We are kind of thinking of calling her Ellie Grace.

What do you think? What are some other possible nicknames?

TIA

Re: Nicknames for Elizabeth

  • Eliza, Liza, Lizzy, Beth, Betty, Ellie, ZaZa ... Elizabeth is probably one of the most highly nicknamed girl names out there.?

  • I love Ellie but don't associate it with Elizabeth.

We considered Elizabeth and were going to use Libby as a nn.

I love Libby but also like Eliza

  • My friend Elizabeth goes by Eli (like the boy's name ee-lye).

  • Ditto pp's that there are tons of cute Elizabeth nn's.  This post made me think of the nursery rhyme/riddle:

    Elizabeth, Elspeth, Betsy, and Bess,
    They all went together to seek a bird's nest;
They found a bird's nest with five eggs in,
They all took one, and left four in.

Edited to add that I think Elizabeth Grace is a beautiful name.  So timeless and classy.

  • I love Elle.

  • i think it's really cute, i just try and stay away from popular names. if you are set on these names, i would be creative and come up with a cute but less popular nickname to set your daughter apart from all the other ellas, ellies, lizzys, libbys, gracies, etc. you could even call her a nickname for a similar name like lily if you want. i would just brainstorm cute nicknames and see what you come up with!

    Agreed!

  • p.s. Ellie would go so well with Noah and Addie. Very cute names!
  • I like Eliza.  I've been wanting to ask you though.... Adeline is my favorite name for a girl right now, and I see that your daughters name is Adeline!  Have you noticed it getting popular?  I keep seeing Adalyn, Addison, Madeline etc and I'm worried that Adeline is getting up there on the popularity chart!  What have you noticed?  Thanks!

  • My favourites are Beth and Libby.

I have a friend who goes by Zibby.  It totally suits her.

  • My sister named Elizabeth has always gone by Libby. I LOVE the name Ellie Grace! There are too many Elizabeth's after my grandmother (my middle name is Elizabeth) in my family, so if we have a girl we picked out Isabelle Grace (Isabel after my other grandma).
  • Well as an Elizabeth, I would say I love my name... my parents and DH call me Lizzie, I grew up as a Lizzie and it was very fitting my whole life, however, very difficult to change and to get people to call me Elizabeth so to the person up above that said Lizzie makes her want to barf thanks a lot but to you... I would say if you do decide on a NM be sure of it because it will probably stick with your child her whole life, even going away to college people started making up Liz because they thought Elizabeth was too long to say so I would tell them Lizzie because I don't like Liz, and then when I started working I never told anyone that people called me Lizzie but my boss started calling me Liz and it stuck and now everyone in the office calls me Liz because Elizabeth is too long for them aparently.... so again to the person that said Liz and Lizzie makes her want to barf good luck to you because even if you don't want to give your child NM's it doen't mean others won't.

  • for whatever reason, last night while i was in bed watching the news, i remembered this post and thought of a great nickname: izzy. i have met a couple of adult izzys and it seems to suit them well but i think it would be especially adorable on a little girl. it will certainly set her apart from all the libbys and ellies.
