My husband wants to move downtown to be closer to work (he works on Wall Street). I live on the UES and am totally unfamiliar with this area. what neighborhoods are good for children? (We have a 7 month old). I am hearing Battery Park and West Village? If you live downtown, do you like the area, do you like your buliding? TIA!
Re: If you live downtown...????
I don't live downtown but I hear that Battery Park is up and coming for kids. I think the nytimes just did a feature about the growth of young families in the area.?
absolutely battery park! it has a park, movie theater, shopping.. i use to work there before 9/11 and had a bunch of friends that lived and some still live there and there are always a lot of mothers with kids around. it's a beautiful location. hopefully ground zero will be rebuild soon (in this decade at least) and it will be even nicer.
it also just seems the brightest location in all of down town.
Hi,
We lived in Tribeca and love it. It's very family oriented - lots of strollers and mommies around.
Battery Park is great for the parks, but it's just a little bit remote. I lived there several years ago. You have to walk a bit further for everything and restaurant and retail options are limited. It's probably the best place for your baby, but you and your husband might feel a little far away especially coming from the UES where you have everything at your fingertips.
We are actually considering north Battery Park - Tribeca Green or Tribeca Park by Related Rentals as an option because we'll be needing to move to make room for the baby. It's likely that we'll stay over in Tribeca though because we like the convenience of being close to restaurants, stores, taxis...
Up until recently, I worked downtown near Wall Street - right near Pier 11 and walked to work everyday from Tribeca - 20 minutes.
Best of luck making your decision and feel free to come back to me with any questions...
Hi there... I work on a block from Wall St. DF works on Wall St..
Here are three options that I suggest... 1) Jersey City - Paulus Hook area (historic district) (really fantastic) and a 6 minute ride to Wall St / WTC 2) Chelsea 3) Battery Park
Hope it helps. Good Luck
