Latch Issues

Alright Ladies now that my milk is starting to come in we are having latch issues.

Before my milk was coming in we had a few issues getting a good deep latch but we could get a good latch. But now that my milk is starting to come in and I'm slightly engorged we can't seem to get a good latch to save my life (or should I say save my nipples).

Do you ladies have any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Latch Issues

  • You could either hand express or pump a little to get your breasts to go down a little if the difficulty latching is due to your breasts being swollen.  Don't go crazy with the pump, I let out about 1/2 an oz each side when I am engorged and baby can't latch.

  • I agree with pp about pumping/expressing just a little. ?Also, have you watched the latch videos by Dr. Jack Newman? ?The ones on?https://www.thebirthden.com/Newman.html are better than the ones on his actual site (www.drjacknewman.com), I think, for showing you how to get a good latch. ?On his site there's a page that describes how to get a good latch with pictures, but I think videos are easier to follow, but that's me. ?He does an asymmetrical latch with a cross cradle hold. ?Worked wonders for me!
