Can I take a cold pill?

I took a generic allergy relief pill early this morning around 8am.  I took that instead of my Tylenol cold because I had the sniffles and my Tylenol cold pill was for congestion.  Well, now I have all the symptoms on the Tylenol cold box since the allergy pill worked and I'm no longer sniffling but am now congested, sore throat, my head is stuffy.  The allergy relief box said don't take more then one in a 24 hour period.  So can I take my Tylenol cold pill?  Anyone?  Bubbly?

Re: Can I take a cold pill?

  • I wouldn't.  My guess is that they have overlapping active ingredients.
  • Probably not.  What did you take?

The antihistamine in it would either be the same as the tylenol cold, and then be doubled up on you and you might get pretty groggy - or if it's different they might react oddly together.

Either way, not a good idea.  I'd drink some hot tea and take plain old tylenol.

  • I took 10mg of Loratadine (generic allergy pill).  I think the Tylenol and tea would probably be a better idea.  I'm already feeling a little shaky from the allergy pill.  Damn cold.
