XP: Moms of boys - I have a question

DS was circumcised right after he was born and DH and I thought we were doing a good job with pulling the foreskin back, etc. to clean, but when I took him for his 4 month appt. on Friday, the NP said that he had some adhesions and pulled the skin back herself (which I didn't even realize until we got home) and then it got all red, etc.  The redness is getting better, but now I'm all freaked out about it re-adhering again, even though we're putting vaseline or bacitracin on it at every diaper change (she told me to just do it once a day, before bed, but I want to stay on top of it).  The nurse told me that he would be fine, but I can't help but worry and everytime I look at it, I wonder since I truly thought it was okay before.  I really don't want DS to have to go through any kind of surgery later on because of it.  Anyone have any experience with this and it all turned out okay?

  • Just keep pulling it back, cleaning and putting vaseline on it.  My pedi said it was common to readhere, they just have to keep watching it.

  • I posted about this last week. At DS's 4 month appointment, pedi noticed a few adhesions. She told us to pull back the skin every diaper change and put vaseline around it. It's definitely red where we've been working on it, but it's already helping.
  • There are actually 2 schools of thought on this. the method you describe above for one...and then other peds, including mine, say to just clean it when you give them a bath. Not to pull it back at all. My ped says it is a natural process...sort of like a snake shedding skin so it can grow. He says many times th epenis can get too irritated if you mess with it to much. So I am leaving DS' alone
