Biting help please!

My DS has become a biter.  He was doing it about a month ago and then stopped.  Now he has started again in full force and my nipples are on fire!  I don't know what to do.
 I have tried:
Unlatching and saying no, then resuming
Pressing my breast into his face
Unlatching, saying no then putting him down for a while
It has become a game and all he does is laugh.  He doesn't care about not eating, he will just go back to playing.
He's 6.5 months old, and I am pretty sure he is going through a growth spurt.  Should I try replacing a feed with a bottle to make sure he's getting enough?  Or maybe spacing my feedings out a bit more?  Right now he is eating 5-6 times per day, when I pump I only get 5 oz tops, so he is not getting a ton of milk.
He also does it whenever...its not because he's full, not because he's too hungry, not because he's falling asleep, etc, etc.  I can only think maybe the letdown is too slow?  He mostly bites on one side as well, so I don't know whats going on.
My only other thought is maybe putting a cold teether on his gums for a few minutes before feeding him, maybe he's got teeth coming in?  I don't know, I am grasping at straws.

  • i don't think you should add the bottle in.  If he was hungry he would get down to business.  I think you are doing all the right things.  he is more efficient than your pump, he is getting more milk than you probably think.  I think the teether idea is good.  Maybe his gums are hurting and he wants to gnaw on something.  your poor nips!

  • OUCH! I can't BF, but DS is a biter too- he snuggles up to me and bites down hard with his 6 little chompers- ouch).  I probably wouldn't go the bottle route- sounds like he's just playing a game with you.  If he's just playing, I'd tell him no and put him down.  I'd try offering a teether before nursing (crushed ice in a mesh feeder works GREAT)- maybe that will help his little gums enough that he won't use you as a teether.
