pieces not matching- thoughts

what do you ladies think of not matching pieces?  I am considering to purchase a natural wood colour crib from PBK but they dont have the matching dresser, so I am  thinking I  can do an espresso colour dresser.  What are your thouhts?

Re: pieces not matching- thoughts

  • I think it can work and look great, but I can also see it going horribly wrong. This is my inspiration pic for our nursery and the pieces aren't all the same (we are doing all black furniture though)...

  • I basically purchased all the items for our nursery from different stores/furniture sets. While everything is white there will be a slight variation. They are not right next to each other in the nursery so it is not noticeable. I don't think that wood tones need to match....
  • It will be hard to pull together a natural wood with an espresso wood. It is easy to add white furniture in with espresso or other dark woods, but i'm not sure about a natutral piece.
  • i think it you're doing non-matching pieces they should be very different colors, ie) black/white, and be the same style. i think different shades of brown wood would look icky. if you're set on a certain crib, maybe pair it with white pieces? it's really hard to say w/o seeing the crib though.
  • I agree it would be extremely difficult with those choices.  I like the PIP that a PP added as inspiration (the whilte and black), but I think 2 different woods would look to weird.  If you are set on the crib, maybe you could get a dresser, table, etc in a white.  Or you could paint the other furniture a fun color to match the room.

  • I think (actually know) that you can do it!

I've done it in my house with my living room...

as long as you get more than one piece (or accent pieces) of each color to pull it together you can totally do it!! :)

    Go for it!

Afterall it is your house and your baby's room!  Be sure to show us when you're done...I'm sure it will look great!

  • I think you can do it. Bumpie MTOW has mismatched pieces:?

    your nursery is beautiful!!

  • I'm all for it.  All of my furniture will be white.  We'll be buying a new crib.  The changer/dresser was my dad's when he was a boy and mine while I was growing up and our chest of drawers was my dad's when he was in college and I got it when I bought my own place.  Refinished they both look like new pieces but the dresser from when he was a boy does have more character.
