Destination Maternity

DH and I were at the mall tonight and they have a Destination Maternity there. I wanted to peak in there and look at their class schedule (and they have great prenatal classes and trainings) and I started looking at some of their SUPER cute maternity clothes. A pair of jeans...$210. SERIOUSLY?! I'm pretty sure DH has banned me from that store. Who is going to pay that for something they can only wear for a certain period of time?! **Not me**

Re: Destination Maternity

  • That must have been for A Pea in the Pod. Motherhood stuff is actually really reasonable!

OHHH that might be it. That was the first thing I saw when I walked in and after that, I stopped looking at prices and just admired. I will say, many of the shirts I looked at were around $70-$80. I'm sorry, I'm just too cheap to spend that much money on maternity clothes. Maybe I'll splurge for a baby shower outfit, but that's about it.

  • Have you checked out Motherhood Maternity?  I don't know if there is one in your area, but they have adorable clothes for very average prices, the same you would pay for regular clothes I think.  A pair of maternity jeans or khakis is about 34, and very cute tee's for around 20.  I got my favorite outfit (of any of my clothes) for 64 bucks, a pair of khaki cargo pants and this awesome printed tee.  Sooo comfy and flattering.

(No, I didn't buy these bc I think I'm showing.  It just makes the bloat muchhh easier to deal with when your clothes fit)

I got a bella band because my pants are tight. They were tight before because I've gained weight the last few months and had planned to start dieting to lose about 10 lbs, then I got PG and I've gained two more, so I'm already outgrowing my clothing! I'm looking forward to maternity clothes because they may actually fit!

  • I have a friend who does IT work for Destination Maternity.  Apparently all of those maternity stores are owned by the same company: Pea In A Pod, Mimi Maternity, Motherhood, and Two Hearts (although I think that they dropped 2 Hearts recently).  According to my friend Pea In A Pod and Mimi are "designer brands" and are really pricey, but Destination & Motherhood are much more reasonable.  I know that many department stores also carry these brands--ie Macy's has Destination & Mimi and they have Petites.  JCP also carries some of those brands in their store as well.  I recently got a pair of jeans by Destination for $24 at Macy's.  They were right next to the $100 Mimi jeans.
  • Kohl's, Target and Old Navy have good maternity clothes.  I really love Target and Old Navy.

I got several things at Motherhood Maternity and am not impressed with the quality.  The jeans frayed and probably won't be wearable in this pregnancy.  The bras all fell apart.  I may go back to get dressy stuff if I need it, but the other stores are better for casual stuff.
