My grandma is a fraternal twin and she is convinced that DH and I are going to have twins. DH's grandpa is a fraternal twin (don't know if it affects anything). Did fraternal twins run in your family? What are the chances I'll have twins??
Not in mine and DH is adopted. But, ours are identical, which are just a crazy unexplained occurence anyway. You never know- we were definitely NOT expecting it!
I have several sets of frats in my family, but mostly cousins, great-grandmas, etc. so nothing too close. I was shocked. Ours are di/di so most likely fraternal, but could still be identicals. Your chance is slightly higher probably, but my doc told me that even with a family history your chance is only about 4%. Your husband could have dozens of twins and it wouldn't affect your chances of ovulating multiple eggs.
Identical twins are a fluke; fraternal twins can run in families. I'm not sure how the male's side can affect a frat twin outcome, unless their sperm is crazy strong and thus just works better. But hyperovulation is genetic, which is where the ovulating 2+ eggs comes in resulting in frat twins.
My mother is a frat twin, and her mother was a frat twin. My mother was obsessed with having twins, always wanted them b/c she knew they ran in the family and she was convinced she was going to have them. She didn't. However, most of the time twins skip generations, and lo and behold, I ended up with spontaneous triplets - identical girls and a boy. So I ovulated the two eggs and was "lucky" enough that one of them split. Voila!

no they didn't run in my family. You just never know though b/c way back they never did u/s's so it very well could have been possible that there was a vanishing twin or something.

I never thought about that. I'm supposedly having frat. and they don't run in my family, I guess on my dad's side way way back at least that's what my grandma said. My MIL did say twins run on their side of the family (none that I know of). I just smiled and nodded since of course my husband didn't make me ovulate twice.
