Pretty heavy for a few weeks for me. But I had to take meds to get my uterus to contract so it would stop. I bled heavy for 3 wks until I went to the dr to be sure all was okay.... Heavier than your worst period.

I bled very heavily for about 3 days after delivery and then it was gradually getting less and less. I bled for a total of 6 weeks and the last couple of weeks was really only spotting. I did notice, however, that if I increased my physical activity, the bleeding would increase some as well (like a normal period).

This sounds a lot like what I experienced. Only I bled for almost 9 weeks. Ugh.
i bled heavily for about 3-5 days and then it tapered off. i occasionally spot now but it is not heavy and hasn't been for a good long time.
This is about what I experienced. The bleeding comes from your uterus, not your vagina. I believe it's called lochia, or something like that. I haven't had any bleeding since about 3 weeks, but I still have the creamy or yellowish slimy discharge sometimes.
Mine has never been as heavy as a bad period, but I'm still bleeding. Some days I bleed almost like a period, other days is more like spotting. Although I do bleed more if I do more, there's not always a reason I can figure out for why it is so variable. I'm just wish it would be over already.
I am only one week out so I can't answer about duration. I had a 3rd degree tear and the first 3-4 days were very, very heavy. Since then it has been like a very heavy period. I change super hospital pads every 2-3 hours. Try and get as many supplies as you can from the hospital. You will use them quickly!
Re: For how long and how heavy do you bleed after giving birth?
