Snarky and T-TTC

Newbie~ TTC with PCOS

I've always found guidance and inspiration in reading what everyone else is going through.  It definately makes me feel like I am not alone in my struggles.  So inadvance thank you to everyone...

My DH and I have been TTC for about 8 months. I was diagnosed with PCOS at the time we started TTC.  I was insulin resistant, high testosterone, no ovulation and high cholesterol.  Depsite the face that I was devistated by my infertility, it was nice to finally understand why I gained 45 pounds. I was always thin and athletic all my life and was depressed how I was gaining weight despite my good diet.  So on the positive side atleast I knew I wasn't crazy.

My GYN put me on 1000MG of metformin. Which after three months brought my insulin and testosterone back in to normal ranges.  My cycles became more irregular ranging 25 to 52 days. Which has made it even harder to ovulation test....

I did my first round of Clomid the first week of February which was again unsuccessful.  No "O".  My dr just did blood work to double check my progesterone and gave me an RX for provera to induce my cycle so we can get started on the second round. The DR insists we do three cycles (the last a double dose) before he sends me to the RE.  I'm just having a really hard time emotionally, always getting a BFN every month. So I am impatient to get to the RE. I almost feel like he is wasting my time on the clomid.  I'm trying to stay positive... but these days I am feeling like a failure to my DH.  He's been supportive and I'm truely grateful, I just want to be able to give him the baby he wants so badly too....

Thanks again......

  • Sorry for your struggles.

Are you charting at all, or just using opk's?

I understand what you mean when you talk about feeling like a failure to your dh.  We aren't struggling with IF at this point, but several losses take the same toll.

  • You might check out www.soulcysters.com it's a great website about PCOS and they have message boards too.  Does your doctor know your concerns about being on clomid?  You can only be on clomid for a certain number of cycles in your lifetime due to the side effects (I believe it's 6 cycles).

So I'd definitely bring that up if you'd rather be under the care of an RE while on clomid.  You probably would be better off with an RE b/c they specialize in these issues whereas an OB doesn't have the same depth of knowledge and doesn't do as much monitoring as an RE.  Good luck!

  • Are you being monitored via ultrasound while you're on Clomid?  If not, ask for a recommendation to an RE, stat.  Clomid can thin your lining to the point where implantation isn't possible.  That happened to me and because I was being monitored via U/S I was put on estrogen to help thicken my uterine lining.

  • I'm so sorry to hear you had several losses.. it really takes a strong woman to continure after that! I give you a lot of credit!

I have been charting and opk's... which helps to narrow things down but... with out my gyn doing ultrasounds it's hard to know what's really going on while I'm on the clomid.

  • Thanks for the info!!! I have been on the soulcysters site for months now. it's really helped me to understand PCOS and understand that I'm not the only one out there!!

My gyn said that we are only doing three cycles.  And I did read about the 6 cycle rule but I was under the impression it was 6 back to back cycles not over a life time.. that's something to definately look in to!

  • my dr isn't really doing any monitoring other than my own charting and opks... which is why i was pushing to go to the RE on the clomid .  That way we can see what it's actually doing.  I was debating on whether I should bypass my GYN and just go to the RE. my insurance doesn't require a referral.  The dr i am seeing at my OB/GYN practice isn't my normal dr so I am not really 100% comfortable with his decisions....

    I really don't know what to do... I know as a patient I have a choice but .... I don't know ....

As far as the uterin lining thining!! That's terrible... that makes me even more concerned since he is not doing any testing of his own to track my clomid process.
