I'm seeing lots of IUI troubles lately. Sorry girls. That just sucks. I am kind of wondering why they don't do trial IUIs? Kind of like they do a mock transfer? Seems like it would be good to figure out potential problems ahead of time with a practice run of sorts.

They do a practice ET. They make sure that they have no issues threading the catheter and measure your uterus. It is sometimes done the same time as an SHG/SIS (saline sono)

That makes a lot of sense. I wonder why they don't do that?
I never had a mock anything. But, I think with IUI they generally do as little as possible to keep the cost down. Also, if you've had an HSG, you've already had a catheter in there, right?
I know when I had b2b IUIs, day 1 hurt. Day 2 (o day) wasn't as bad because my cervix was more open.

Sorry I'm so late on this. I was gone for a couple hours for a meeting.
I do think difficulties during IUI are not the norm. I know that I also had lots of pain during my HSG, and the nurse there said she'd never seen it hurt like that for anybody else. Yeah for me. I don't know what the issue is with my cervix. Agree with mb that maybe we're just, shall we say, special.
Even still, the idea of doing a mock IUI absolutely does not appeal to me. Considering how much it hurts, I don't want anybody threading anything into my cervix that doesn't have my husband's sperm in it, pleaseandthankyou. No sense in the pain with no gain.?
I do understand the mocks for IVF, though; with the cost and the level of invasiveness, you'd want to make sure everything is a go before you get started.?
All fascinating stuff.
What about laminara sticks for IUI? They use them to dialate the cervix before D+E's...I had one inserted 24 hours before mine. It's seaweed that expands over time by the natural fluids in the vag.
I think you mentioned them yesterday. Interesting.
My RE nurses have never mentioned anything like that, but if it starts to look like I'll be at this for months on end, maybe I'll ask.?
When the MD said "cough so I can get this clamp good and tight on your cervix" I knew she meant business...
I was dilated, but it wasn't by no seaweed. It was some evil plastic stick thing and it sucked and hurt like a_bitch. Good news is she was eventually able to get the catheter all the way in.
