OMG, I can't believe how expensive stuff is. I am not KU yet but I was thinking of doing a sock monkey theme for my nursery when I do get KU and I can't believe how much the bedding and accessories are! $192.00 for curtains! I see that they sell the fabric so maybe I can get someone to make me the curtains, crib skirt, and bumper!
Yikes, I may have to go with another theme.
Re: Budgeting for baby stuff
You could get plain solid colored sheets and bedding (like, in red or brown or whatever), and then decorate with sock monkey stuff. And you don't have to buy the "sets" of accessories you see in the stores. A lot of that decor stuff is super-easy to make yourself. And often cuter, IMO.
Just saying.
Short of a few essentials (ie. car seat), it's really what you make it to be. Baby Bargains the book is helpful in helping decide what's a better value for your money, but in our case we've decided to just not buy a ton of crap pre-baby and stash that money away in savings instead (we're also not setting up a full nursery but that's another story).
FWIW, though, I saw a ton of sock monkey bedding on Etsy.
