letting one sleep?

Ethan is now out eating Owen by an oz or more at each feeding.  As a result most nights he is the one that is being woken up to eat because Owen is hungry.  We dream feed him and he still out eats Owen.  i have a feeling that if I let him he would skip a feeding (right now they are up every 2.5-3 hrs it is rare if they make it to 4 hrs).

Is it twin mommy suicide to let him sleep?

Re: letting one sleep?

  • No way!  Mine started sleeping longer stretches at 8w on the nose.  You might be surprised what happens - it could be tough for a little while, but I bet little Ethan starts to give you a break at night!

  • Around two months, my girls started showing signs of being able to sleep longer (we'd been feeding every 3 hours).  My pedi suggested letting the sleeping one sleep - so as to not create a cycle of waking for food, even when not hungry.  So I let the sleeping baby sleep.

The next two weeks were pretty much hell on earth - babies waking up at all hours of the night.  I was a zombie.  *However*, at the end of those two weeks, I had one baby completely STTN (going to bed around 9/9:30 and waking at 6:30/7 for a bottle) and one getting up only 1-2 times per night.  So, in my book, the pain was totally worth it.

  • Someone else posted recently that their pedi said if it's the same twin who always needs to be woken to eat, try letting that one sleep to see how long they'll go. Makes sense to me!

  • We feed on demand at night.  It really is not that bad.  I can feed one much faster than two so really it equals out for me.
