Yes :(  I really just don't think I can do Mirena (because of weight gain) based on what I have read and what my body has done with other birth control.

  • Good quesiton i am trying to find one too.
  • I'm going with the ParaGard, so I'd like to know, too!

Mirena isn't really an option for me since I struggled wth PPD and I've had 3 friends tell me they've had problems with depression since the Mirena.  One had it out and replaced with the ParaGard (she said she bled off and on for about 5mo and then started having normal periods) and 2 went on anti-depressants.

I can't handle hormones, so the ParaGard is my only option (I also got pregnant on the pill this time, so there's no way I'm trusting another pill!).

  • I had it and loved it (and am saving up money to get it again since our insurance won't cover it).

My periods weren't any heavier and I didn't have any heavier bleeding either.  I cannot sing its praises enough!

If you have any specific questions just ask me and I'll do my best to answer them from my experience.

Were you periods normal before having it inserted?

Did you have any other symptoms?

    Thanks MrsT!!

They were normal before I got pregnant.  I hadn't had a period yet when I had it inserted, but they were normal right away (the weekend after insertion).

I had bad PMS, but I don't attribute that to the ParaGard, but rather to hormonal changes after having a baby.  I had no symptoms that I didn't have when I wasn't taking any bc.

Oh, one thing, YH needs to be open and honest with you.  I didn't find out until after I had it removed that the string was poking MH during sex and he said it was very uncomfortable and sometimes painful.  I wish he had told me before, because I could've had the ob/gyn check and shorten the strings a bit.

  • before insertion, I had short, light periods, every 4 wks like clockwork. it was inserted last october. My first period was the worst.  Like post partum cramping after the second baby.  heavy but only a week long (6 or 7d). The last two I've had have been crampy but not bad, very tolerable, don't need to take anything type tolerable. Slightly heavier for the first 2 days than I had prior to insertion. But not bad.  The worst part of it was insertion.  and the really uncomfortable part of that was only when they measured.  I took motrin before going in.

I picked paragard.. or my ob highly suggested it... b/c I have a history of pree x 2. and although my pressures are in the normal range.. they are all over the place. I'm at high risk for high blood pressure.  He suggested a non-hormone method of bc.  so it was this or the permanent, which we're not ready for yet. I don't want to go through preeclampsia yet again.. but I am not ready to slam the door yet either.
