My mom has one.

I've put it in both the spot for the bleach or the fabric softener. Either one works, but the FS one might be a bit better.

I have had to do it because we had thrush, and I didn't notice any smell afterward.

Maybe half a cup? I just filled it to the lines in the dispensers.
