1st Trimester

Filtered water...

I've been making sure that I only drink filtered water but something just hit me.  Should I be filtering water before I boil it to make tea or ramen?  My husband thinks it should be ok not to, since boiling is basicly doing the same thing that filtering does.

Am I being overly cautious?  I think I've started making myself paranoid.  I'm so scared to eat things for fear of it being undercooked/ has a no-no ingredient, etc.  Now I've gotten myself afraid of water!!!!

Re: Filtered water...

  • Unless you are in Mexico, the regular tap water should be fine

You need to relax, otherwise you will have a LONG unenjoyable 9 months.

  • Do you have a faucet filter or just bottled? I have a filter on my fridge so I use that. Why just filtered water btw.
  • Is something wrong with the water before you filter it?
  • You'll be fine.

I know not everyone follows the filtered water thing, but my RE said to only drink filtered, so that is what I am doing...but for cooking purposes, you are boiling the water...it will be fine.

  • You will not die from unfiltered water and your baby will not come out with 5 legs and 3 arms.

I have a brita pitcher that i keep in my fridge.  I've been drinking filtered becuase our tap tastes like it has a lot of chlorine in it.  I just don't think that drinking chlorine is good for a growing baby

  • watch out, if you have just a drop of beer your child will be like bart simpson.
  • I just drink plain tap water. Our water has been tested and with the exception of higher iron there's nothing bad in it.

I'm not about to freak out about water. I consider our water supply pretty safe.

I would suspect that that's more related to studies on fertility than pregnancy.  Could be wrong though.  My acupuncturist wanted me to only drink reverse osmosis water but that was due to some studies on fertility

I don't think so either, I wouldn't worry about the cooking water if you are boiling it. If you are really concerned you can get the faucet filter, then you need not worry. Smile

That is what I thought as well but they told me this only after I got my first positive beta...that along with no raw meats or big fish.  Other than that, everything else was clear.
