First steps?

DS took 5-6 steps on 1/20 and 1/21 and then nothing until this weekend.  On Sunday he did about 8-9 steps and since then he has been taking a lot more small steps.  So my question is for his baby book should I mark down 1/20 as his first steps or this past weekend?

Re: First steps?

  • I counted that very first tentative step in his baby book. So mine says "first step 1/20, and by your birthday you could cover half the room!"

  • In thinking about this, many things in his baby book are spans of time. Like with crawling since it happened so gradually, it says mid-October or something like that. So you could do that too. You could say 1/20, but started walking a little bit every day by mid-February.
  • I have several milestones just marked in the timespan that they happened.  Milestones are all so hard to pinpoint.  So I would say his very first steps were 1/20, and that he started taking more this weekend.

  • I marked it on the day he actually took his first unassisted steps.  So mine also looked something like yours......I would do what pps suggested, first steps on 1/20 and walking more by mid-February/your birthday.
  • Thanks guys that is what I am going to do.  I am working on finishing his baby book this weekend so I just wasn't sure what to do.

  • I listed my DD's 1st steps that she took even though now, a month later, she is still not walking and still not taking many more steps but she is taking 1-2 steps at least once a day.  I have it listed as 1st steps and when she starts walking, I'll list that as well.  She walks great while holding onto just my finger so I know its just a matter of time but my DD doesn't do anything fast - she was like with crawling too, she would do a drop of crawling but not really get anywhere and that went on for 3 months until she knew she could do it and then she went non-stop.
