So I am 19 weeks PG and was all set on the sterilizer that I am or WAS going to register for. We don't have a dishwasher so a sterilizer is a must and I think carrying around the microwave ones seems dangerous for a clumsy person as myself, so I found a nice one that sits on the counter.
Well my friend who has a 3 month old called this AM and was teling me that her son got thrush and they said it was from her sterilizer not drying the bottles. (She said it was scarey because his tonge actually swelled so the had to take him to the ER) (Also want to add that she used one of the microwave sterilizers)
I am just wondering if any of you have had this problem? Or if you have any info or experience on this issue, it would be helpful.
TIA
Re: Bottle Sterilizers causing thrush??
I just cured a 2 month bout of thrush, with gentian violet, clove oil, vinegar rinses and boiling. I do not think what they told your friend if correct. What finally did it for us was boiling EVERYTHING she touched (including her bibs, shirts and onesies, and her bedding and towels) for 20 minutes. Microwave sterilizers do not kill thrush. Counter setting sterilizers do not kill thrush. Only prolonged exposure to very high heat kills thrush. And I don't see what wrong with just throwing stuff in a pot to boil anyway- sterilizers are another unnecessary baby item IMO.
And don't worry about thrush. Most babies don't get it. Mine only did because she had open-heart surery and was given massive amounts of penicillin to prevent infection.
