1st Trimester

My very first male gyno is going to look at my vag tomorrow.

So, tomorrow is my first Dr. Appt (yay!).  Unfortunately, I will be seeing a male Dr. This is my first experience with a man.  Haha, that sounded funny.  Anyway, I'm a bit flustered about it.  At least DH will be in the room.

  • Don't worry about it.  I thought I'd feel weird too, but I was leaning up talking to him the whole pelvic exam. haha.  DH wasn't there, but a female nurse was.  I think they have to do it that way.

  • Well if your DH is gonna be in the room... I smell threesome!!

    (couldn't help myself...)

That's what I was thinking the entire time I was typing that post!  dirty.  :)

  • I have to say, Men give WAY BETTER INTERNALS than Women do.

    Seriously.

It's because they don't have the same sort of plumbing and they approach with caution. Women have this whole, I have to go through this so you can just suck it up attitude. ?

  • i have always had female dr.s, but when i went to have my dating u/s the only dr. that was there to do it was a male, and we had to do it transvaginally. i was freaked out, but dh was there, and he looked only enough for him to figure out where to put the dildo-cam, and it really wasnt awkward like i thought it would be. good luck, dont stress too much.
  • I never understood why people were creeped out by a male gyno. He is there to do his job, not get off on staring at your vag.

  • That is true.  That said, what man wants to be a gyno?  I certainly don't want to be a weiner Dr.
  • Don't worry...it'll be fine.  My dr. is a male too...not near as awkward as you would think.  GL tomorrow!
  • does DH feel weird about it?  i think i'd be okay, but having DH see another guy down there (even a dr.) would weird him out i think.  maybe.  i might have to ask tonight.  hmm ...

my dh doesnt like it. we both wonder why they chose this as a profession. flame if you will, thats just how we feel.

BUT- it wasnt as weird as i thought it would be.

This reminds me of a joke a doctor my husband works with said.

Do you know what OB/GYN really stands for?

    Oh Boy Got You Naked.

I know it's bad, dont freak about having a male OB though.  Two of my four doctors are men and they are great doctors and really professional.

Nah, DH is like whatever.  That's because it's not HIS vag.
  • I prefer male OB/GYN's over females.  I refuse to see females after the shiit I dealt with during my pg with DD.  Red's right - women are just damn insensitive about internals.

That makes me feel better.  The women are always like ramming that PAP smear up there like it's nobody's business.

  • I had a male w/ DS.  Initially I thought it would be "weird" or whatever, but he was great, and ITA w/ Redd and Taelir.

  • i prefer males too. we have 2 males and 1 female in our practice. i've only seen the female, but next time i meet one of the guys. out of all the women i know who goes there, he's the favorite. one scheduled when she was being induced so he was the on call doc.

It's all good, I have a male gyno... a small, meek man.... lol...

  • don't worry my first OBGYN was a male and I loved him...I was sad when he didn't deliver at the hospital that I wanted and I switched when I got preg...but don't worry...it isn't ackward actually...
  • EWW. ?I can't handle that!
  • He will likely be very professional and put you at ease himself.  I think I'm more squeemy about my DH possibly being in the room during an internal exam. I guess I'm crazy.

As for why a man would want to be an OBGYN...how amazing it must be to deliver babies!  It would more than make up for the rest.

***************************** Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.
  • Eh, you'll be OK. My ob/gyn is a man, baby! (Couldn't help it) ?I've had both sexes over the years, so it'll be OK.
  • I am in the same boat you are in. ?I have had female doctors all my life and moved to a new state right before my BFP so I needed to find a new office. ?When I called the office I specifically asked for a female and the receptionist told me that "they do work like that" that I had to be familiar with all the doctors. ?As much as I am nervous about this appointment I keep telling myself to stop being such a baby about it and put my big girl panties on. ?

  • I go to a male doctor for several reasons.  Its not that akward.  The gay female obgyn that I went to a few years ago was akward though.

This -  and I have found women OB's have a tendency to try and influence your birth plan so it's like theirs - like their way is the best way so you should do the same thing.

  • Don't worry about it.  My fav doc I had was a male, he was much more gentle actually than the female docs I had before.  I wish he practiced near me...but he's 2 hours away.
  • I had previously had a female ob/gyn but had to switch when I called with my BFP and found out she no longer delivered babies.  Today, I had my first appt with my new male ob/gyn, and it wasn't that bad.  I think I was more nervous and anxious to see the ultrasound which turned out great.  Heart was flickering and arm/legs moving around.  You'll be fine.
