1st Trimester

5 weeks

My Fiance and I have been planning our Jamaican wedding for 8 months now with our wedding just around the corner when we discovered we are 5 weeks pregnant! This wasn't planned but we couldn't be more happy! Is it okay to fly to Jamaica, suntan, snorkel, and still do the fun activities we have planned?! I've read I can't go into hot tubs and no more zip lining we had planned, anything else I shouldn't do?

Re: 5 weeks

  • Be prepared for morning sickness!
  • Loading the player...
  • suntanning isnt recommended either
  • When did your morning sickness start? I haven't felt sick yet, plus my Mother and Grandmother barely felt the effects of morning sickness so I am hoping to follow in their footsteps!
  • Started around 5 weeks. Nausea is the worst and it's all day long.  Remember - just because your mom and grandma didn't have it, doesn't mean you won't.  All of our bodies are different.
  • Congrats!!  I would go and have a blast just try to be cautious.  :)
  • You can get a prescription for something to help with m/s if you want to.  (At least, in Canada you can...I imagine it would be the same in the US)  And if you're going to be in Jamaica I certainly would.  It's called Diclectin, I haven't tried it, but some of the girls on my local board have and it worked wonders for them.

Mom, why are you washing my feed in the sink?!

  • You shoul ask your doc about anti nausea meds for the plane I get airsick with my m/s
  • Congratulations !

If your resort serves buffet style meals, I'd steer clear of raw fish and anything with mayonnaise (i.e. the things that can go bad easily when left sitting at room temperature)

My mother and grandmother were like yours: no m/s - and I was lucky enough to inherit the genes (so far - fingers crossed) - Hope youll be as lucky as I am!

  • I don't see anything wrong with laying in the sun! I mean I wouldn't indoor tan before or anything... Sounds great to me! I wish I were going to the islands!

    Congrats & have fun!!

I felt the first signs of morning sickness @ 7weeks. It hit me full blast 2 days later.......I have asked my family before if they ever had it and my grandmother said her pregnancies were all great no problems....my mother had no m/s either...I am the lucky one I guess! :(

  • You will be fine.. Just be aware you will probably be getting tired sooo quickly.. and possibly sick. (my Ma and Gma's were all m/s free and I am paying for it all now... so dont let that be your determining factor)

Suntan, snorkle.. do it all. Just dont over-do anything. Your skin might be prone to sensitivity (so they say) but hell, even I can burn in Jamaica. YOU CAN TAN, Seriously. Just watch your body temp and make sure you stay hydrated, thats the biggest problem with being in the sun.. and heat.

oh and like the hot Canadian Chick up there says.. avoid the raw fish and mayo products. Better to be safe than sorry..

HAVE FUN! Im jealous.. =(   lol and  Congrats!!
