Speaking of pets...

I find that when my friends talk about their kids, I often respond with a story about my cats.  Anyone else do that? 

I know a pet isn't the same, but they are like a family member and have a lot in common with kids: they puke/pee/poop on the carpet, run around like they're crazy sometimes, you have to take them to the doctor, they can't tell you what hurts, etc...

I can't say that I respond to kid stories with pet stories, but I can say that I talk about my pets a LOT. Maybe too much.?

I do - all the time. I love my dogs like they are my children, and until I am lucky enough to have a baby, they are going to fill that need for me.

although I'm a crazy dog mom to the point that i'm not sure that a baby will supercede my dogs. seriously.  Human baby or no human baby, they were still my first babies and will forever have their spot in my life and heart.

I do the same thing, but dh is worse.  we were at a friend's the other day and someone pulled out pics of their kids, dh pulled out his cell phone and started showing pics of the cats... we've become those people
